Well, I'm 21 weeks preggo this week so I am more than halfway there! I'm really starting to pop out but fortunately I'm not gaining all over- that is a HUGE relief for me, and for the scale! I gained 15 lbs almost right away which was really frustrating since everyone was asking me if I had LOST weight, but it has stayed at the same spot for the past two weeks now. Just about all of our family knows now- I couldn't hide the bump anymore!
I started taking a new prenatal, prescribed instead of the otc ones. They make me feel sooo sick and I almost threw up in the grocery store the other day! Forunately I was able to sit down (on the ground...eww) and it passed after what seemed like forever but was only about a minute. Note to self: take them long before going anywhere!
I've been having some intense cravings, but I've been able to incorporate them into foods I already have so it hasn't been too much of a problem. My biggest issue is buying food ahead of time because what I want one day I have absolutely no interest in the next. And I can't put my heart and time into making something I don't want to eat. My cravings have been simple- spinach (fresh), strawberries, bananas, orange juice and hot sauce. I can only tolerate meat so often (I can eat it when there is a little mixed in with stuff but I can't eat a hamburger or a big piece of chicken most days) so I am not getting my hot sauce fix. I've been trying to figure out what else to put it on because otherwise I'll just drink it straight! It's best in my jambalaya because I can add as much as I want and with everything in there I don't mind the meat. For my other cravings I've figured out creative ways to eat them so I'm not eating the same things over and over again. I've been eating spinach salad with strawberries and whatever else I feel like throwing in (usually it's pretty basic) and some sort of vinegarette. I've been making fruit smoothies with frozen strawberries, bananas, vanilla yogurt and sometimes a splash of OJ. I've been drinking lots of OJ and I've been throwing fresh spinach into every hot dish that I can get away with throwing it in. Mostly spaghetti-type meals. I did this last night- I made pasta with spaghetti sauce and diced tomatoes. The meat was sausage and while I was cooking that I added a ton of garlic, fresh spinach, sweet peppers and oregano. Then I threw in some more spinach after I added the sauce and when it was done I topped it with loads of parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Yum!!
The other day I was watching the food channel and saw a woman cooking these amazing-looking stuffed burgers. They were filled with cheese, onions and who knows what else but suddenly I HAD to have a burger. We were out of time to go to the grocery store or a restaurant so finally after refusing all other fast food restaurants I settled for Hardees. They have the best fast food burgers (5 Guys is better, but those are all out of the way). So we grabbed coupons and headed over. I got two of the thick burgers (ate 1 and a half- it had been a long time since I had eaten by then). It wasn't as good as it looked on the menu but it satisfied my craving. That was the first time I really wanted beef in months! I know I need it because my iron is probably pretty low (I have always had iron deficiency anemia or was borderline while pregnant and/or nursing) and even though I love spinach I don't eat it enough. Within the past 3 weeks I've also started to eat lots of dill pickles (how cliche) but they have to be the refridgerated ones and sandwiches- one in particular- a Salsalito Turkey, deli American cheese, mayo, pepper relish and Martin's (has to be Martin's) BBQ waffle chips (I'd also use Martin's Kettle Cooked plain) sandwich on any bread but white! This isn't a new and freaky craving, I've loved these for more than 2 years when I first tried it while preggo with Jonas in Florida but haven't had one in a while.
This is the first pregnancy where I am not craving a totally new food. With Zachary I developed lots of new food cravings, with Amara it was sauerkraut and with Jonas it was mushrooms. In the very beginning of this pregnancy I started disliking soda. I went from drinking it a few times a week to being totally disgusted with a few sips. I even tried a few different kinds- Coke, Pepsi, Root Beer, Sprite and none of them appealed to me even a little bit. I gave up after a few sips each time. It's probably the best dietary decision my body has ever made for me! I wonder if once I have the baby I will want or like soda again but for now I am going to enjoy a slightly healthier me and hope that the habits I've developed over these few months will stick with me. I do drink coffee every day- 2 cups max and sometimes I drink hot chocolate or tea- hot or cold but it has to be certain kinds. Of course I have to have my OJ and I like to drink Apple Cider sometimes. But otherwise it's been just water and it tastes sooo good!
What were your cravings?

Thank you!! So far it's been great.
with my 1st: it was watermelon in the winter!
with my 2nd it was ben and jerry's blueberry icecream (my husband drove to vermont to get 4 packs of it, couldn't get it locally. :)
with my 3rd, it was salt products. chips.
I remember getting very ill looking at the raw meats in the supermarket and one day crumbling to my knees at the site of a raw chicken.
What a wonderful husband!
I'm having some trouble with the smell of meat cooking. It's amazing what pregnancy does to our bodies and minds, and what it can change!
I craved Arby's roast beef in the first part of my pregnancy. I used to DREAM about it! I was also repulsed by chocolate.
With Aidan I was eating all different types of cravings............they would change from day to day. One time it was fried chicken and sliced tomatoes. I couldn't get enough of them.
I was a pig with both pregnancies and I ate everything in sight.
Isn't it funny what pregnancies will do to your cravings?
I like milk too, but I only have a little each day.
You reminded me of one of my other cravings and that was red licorice. I was seen eating on them all day long. I don't even eat that much of it when I'm not pregnant.
Sounds like you're having pretty healthy cravings. Good for you.
It seems like the pregnancies become more noticeable for each pregnancy, doesn't it?
I too had many cravings during my last pregnancy, and OJ was a hit in the beginning. At the end OJ made me throw up, and I just recently started drinking it again.
So far nothing besides sometimes meat turns me off. One thing I can't do now with either OJ or Apple Cider is to drink the last few ounces. I always pour (rather than drinking out of the bottle) so it shouldn't bother me but it does!
I also craved strawberries and Hawaiian punch throughout the entire pregnancy. I hated garlic (normally I love garlic and treat it like most people treat salt....a little bit gets added to almost everything I cook, and I add extra to my own food).
I really struggled with meat, too, but that's the way that I take in iron the best so I tried really hard.
I had taco bell a few weeks ago and normally I love it but I think I'll pass for now- it just didn't taste the same!
Hot sauce mixed with sour cream for a veggi dip
Hot sauce on co;;ard green
Hot sauce on any kind of bean (great northern are the best)
There, that should help the hot sauce fix!
With Stephy it was pretzels!
When are you due? My sister is due January 14th, day after Stephy's birthday and she's craving chicken noodle soup! LOL!
I'm due March 20th. That month is packed full of birthdays...eek! I'm pretty sure we won't be going to most of the birthday parties that month.
My birthday is January 11. I was almost born outside in a snowstorm!
My second pregnancy, I went through various phases of cravings, but nothing out of the ordinary. Towards the end though, I was eating 4 bowls of cereal a day--two for breakfast, and two for "snacks" in the evening. I also ate a lot more fruit, since I need bigger lunches...especially grapes, since I could eat those throughout the day at work without it being obvious that I was eating.
I was literally big as a cow with my first; I gained 70 lbs with him. It took almost 2 years to lose all but 10 lbs, but I was lucky that I hid it well, considering my petite frame. The second time, I gained 50 pounds--at the rate I was gaining it would have been closer to 60 but he was a little early. This time it was "all belly" and by 5 months, people thought I was due any day. I still have more of that belly than I want but I am working on it.
With every one of my babies people were asking me by 7 months which day that month I'd be having the baby, or asking if I was having twins. Don't people realize how much that hurts?? Being inconsiderate to a pregnant woman's feelings is like making an old lady cross the street with a big bag full of groceries and not offering to help when she struggles. There are things you just shouldn't do or say!!!
