In June of 1991, eleven-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard was walking to her school bus stop in South Lake Tahoe, CA. She never made it to school that day. A car swerved over to her, the door opened, and a woman pulled Jaycee into the car. Jaycee's step-father, Carl Probyn, was in his garage and saw this happen but did not have his car keys with him so he jumped on his mountain bike and chased the car. He could not catch up so he came back home and called 911. Jaycee was not seen again for 18 years.
For those 18 years Jaycee was kept in a hidden back yard compound of tents and outbuildings. She had two daughters with her captor, Phillip Garrido. Her daughters thought she was their older sister. In August of 2009 Garrido took Jaycee and her daughters with him to a meeting with his parole officer and Jayce revealed her true identity. She has been reunited with her famiily. Read The Kidnapping of Jaycee Lee Dugard for more details on the kidnapping, Jaycee's homecoming and the first public picture taken of her since her return.
