The Amazing Race had a sad ending last week, thankfully that wasn't the case this week as the most annoying team finally bit the dust. Literally. Leaving Cambodia teams were only told to find the talent building in the Persian Gulf. Some had little trouble realizing that meant Dubai while others were told right before they bought tickets. Brian helped almost every team on the race tonight. He calls it karma, I call it stupidity. In the end everyone got the same flight to Dubai, finding out where it was one way or the other, and that allowed everyone to get equalized.
In Dubai their first task was to find the building and sign up for a elevator time. The girls landed the first spot as the rest followed. The next morning they learned they would go to the top of the building and had no clue why. Mika freaked out before even entering the building thanks to her fear of heights. Lucky for her all they had to do was walk out to a fence covered deck, grab a clue and go back down. Scarier things awaited poor Mika though, like riding down a hill on a sled.
The climb to the top was all worth it for one team as the only Fast Forward of the race came into play. Cheyne and Meghan were the first to claim it and were off to the races. At the track Cheyne had to drive a, somewhat Indy looking car, around the track within 45 seconds. While he had a blast doing the task, Meghan freaked out and cried. I can understand being scared, but she wasn't even IN the car, she was watching her boyfriend drive it. In the end they finished the task and claimed the first spot at the mat, again. They are looking good for at least a top three finish, but right now my bet is on Cheyne and Meghan for the win.
With their heights behind the teams then drove out to the Dubai desert in search of water. There they found their Road Block where one team member searched the desert for urns filled with water. Only one urn seemed to really have water in it and after finding it first, Brian told both Tiffany and one of the brothers where it was. Another plus for his stupid, I mean karma, meter. Too bad the girls' luck seems to be running out as after helping Dan/Sam, Maria backs into a pole and punctures their radiator. "Radiator mud" then began to spew out of the car, creating our first car replacement of the season. Since Tiffany helped them with a broken ladle, the guys waited to make sure the girls were ok. Don't they realize it's a race? Plus the girls wouldn't have done that for them, oh well they finished before the girls in the end anyway.
Everyone had little trouble finding the desert location, except for our old friends Lance and Kerri. Once again they screwed up, several times, and landed at the Road Block behind everyone. They first missed a turn then went the opposite direction, all without screaming at each other! Too bad they didn't, considering them being lost was rather boring other then Kerri's crazy funny accent. They just HAD to throw in every Boston accent stereotype all in one episode. Once the water was found teams then moved from the hot hot sand to the freezing indoor ski resort. It was fun to see the show move from two extremes in one location and it's probably the first they've ever done that.
The indoor ski resort featured a winter landscape and their next Detour. They could either sled down a hill and search for a small snowman in pile of snow or build a snowman outside in the 100 degree heat. All of the first teams to arrive took the sled and search approach, leading to some funny moments as the teams sled down on tiny pieces of medal. Ericka screamed the entire way down but seemed to have fun, even if she was freezing her butt off. Finding the actual snowman wasn't so fun though. Thanks to his karma meter being maxed out for the day, Ericka found the snowman for Brian and they were off and checking in with Phil. Several minutes passed with nobody else having similar luck so they all, except for the Globe Trotters, switched to the building task as Lance/Kerri still being lost somewhere in the desert.
The snowman task was much easier and teams finished quicker than they thought. In the end it came down to Cannan/Mike and Kerri/Lance. Both teams had trouble finding the water and also had trouble with directions but in the end Kerri and Lance just couldn't pull it together to stay in the game. The two weren't that fun to watch as their stupidity of the race really wore off and became more annoying. It seemed they were ready to leave but were still in love, something they feared the race would tear apart. At least they accomplished something I guess.
