This is the final article in a series, in which I describe and photograph my neighborhood as I walk through it in different seasons. (Here is the first, here is the second, and here is the third.)
A Walk for All Seasons: Autumn
For me autumn is a bittersweet season. I prefer its cooler temperatures to the heat of summer, but am also very sorry to see the days get shorter, particularly as we lose light in the evening. And though I like limited doses of winter (I find the occasional snowfall charming), I dislike it after only a few weeks of cold weather. For my autumn walk I chose a path that has plenty of trees and some attractive but non-strenuous topography. I do not remember having walked along it during the fall season before so I wasn't sure whether I'd get good foliage colors. Moreover I had trouble choosing the best time to go. It was cloudy so much this autumn that I took advantage of the first sunny day I could get out. I may not have caught the colors at their height, but I think I may have caught some subtler transitional shades.

A much more colorful tree.

This evergreen seemed to be losing needles too.
Green and yellow.
Fiery reds.
Perhaps the brightest of all.

Fifth Avenue, a major artery of Pittsburgh that is still pleasant to walk down. I used to walk about a mile along this road a day when I went to Pitt.

I love the photographs, love the gorgeous trees.
I do like the neighborhood I'm in for a lot of reasons, and one of them is that it is very walkable--at least if you start off in the right direction. Some other areas near me aren't quite as nice to walk through, but there's plenty of ground for me to cover nonetheless.
