A Little Sun, A Little Water: Bay Photos

In November I'm spending a few days down at Gulf Shores, and in anticipation of this, I took a look at some old photo albums of previous trips to Mobile Bay, which is really nothing like the feel of being by the ocean, but is a pretty close cousin.  With trees.

Oh, those days of lugging a 'real' camera around and having 'real' film developed, but I was usually pretty happy with the results my Pentax gave me.

These photos are all from 2002, maybe 2001 (if you're like me, you think you'll always remember the year you took the photos and won't have to do anything as silly as writing dates down, durrrrr).

 

A golden light...

A show-off cloud...

 

And finally -- an enlargement of this one is hanging in my office. I call it "the finger of God."

Mother Nature dun good.  So did the late Pentax.  I can't remember if it's the Pentax I dropped in the sand, or the one that bounced off the deck... but it was definitely a Pentax.

Must go look through other albums now...

I use to always mark the days I took photos in a journal with a description of the photo and I would place that date in the photo albums but between the kids and grand kids moving photos around and the tags in some cases falling off. Who knows ?
I still have my old Pentax K1000 in the closet

The first time I tried to kill the second one was by bouncing it off a concrete floor. I thought I would have a heart attack -- the camera was only a few weeks old.

I got a Pentax ME for Christmas 1977, back in the day when it was the hot new thing. I pretty sure that it was the first compact semi-automatic SLR.

Your pictures are beautiful. I LOVE that first one!

(and I am very, very jealous about your trip.)

I need to get one of those scanners for negatives. Of course, then I'd have to dig out my unmarked negatives and risk going mad...

I have years of color slides. My kids have been after me for years to scan them. Hasn't happened.

Great shots! LOVE the first one too. I love shooting clouds so these really spoke to me :)

We have hundreds of negatives in sleeves in binders - we used to shoot black and white and develop them ourselves. We really need to have them scanned!

Ours are only in sleeves because I married a very precise, obsessive, engineer who likes some things orderly :)

Mine are just in boxes or baskets here and there...

You're photos are beautiful. Being by the ocean is really therapeutic in so many ways, and I personally consider the sunrise and sundown magical hours of the day.

Those are wonderful photos! I liked the "hand of God" one, too. :) I got a slide scanner and if you have very many, you might as well give up sleeping and eating. It's not a fast process. :\ I guess that's why people bite the bullet and pay someone else to do it.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your new photos, and I am jealous of your vacation.

There's a blanket... you know, in case I have an emergency in cold weather which requires me to bundle up... and hmmm, I guess I could store some food there to be eaten while we're on the coast. I hope any food I put in would still be there upon arrival. Surely that wouldn't be a problem.

My sister-in-law is from Mobile. I don't know why but everytime she says, "Mobile", it sounds like a question.

A Little Sun & A Little Water but one Incredible EYE for photography. I still love my photography from them days too; my Pentax K1000, Minolta SRT-201 and the cream of the crop, my black Minolta X-700. Man, I wish I had them all back.
