Last night I got to work on the mouse halloween costume. All in all it came out fairly well. Was a bit hard working only in hot glue without sewing, but it wasn't too bad. Here's the step by step essay creating a GARY (the snail from Spongebob) costume.
At Angela M.'s suggestion I used a baby sock that Gideon had long outgrown. I cut off the toe and glued my felt on it.

I added some green for the "slime" on the bottom of Gary.

Here's the opening. Mouse sized. Not too big, not too small.

Working on the shell, now.

The final shot of the shell stuffed lightly to hold shape.

The edges of the shell had to be pinched to fit better.

Now to add the detail on the shell. The spiral and dots.

The other side.

The eyes and eye stalks. Made from those annoying twist ties on Kid's toys and two beads.

The finished costume! A little more than two hours later this is what I had come up with:

Now the question is: Will they wear it?

I picked it because of the shape and it looked easy enough to work with in a 1 inch scale (which is about how big this is - it's actually 2 inches long)
Wow! You would have thought it'd cost a lot less than $60 for that! But I bet he will look adorable in it just the same!
I've always been crafty and often make my own patterns up (this started because patterns used to cost so much), so I guess it kinda comes easier to me now after all these years.
The follow up essay is now up, too. :)
