It has been a week today that Bill and I left my sister’s home in Kentucky for the great unknown. We spent our first three days at Dillon State Park, near Zanesville, Ohio.
It was cold, but beautiful. Our campsite was on a hill, overlooking Dillon Reservoir, which made the sunsets spectacular.
We cooked our meals over a campfire every night, which was great, as we both adore food cooked over a wood fire. The first night we had burgers with grilled veggies, and the next, Italian Chicken Tortellini soup. We had the hunters in the next site straining their necks to get a whiff of that tomato-ey, garlic-y stew, which we had with homemade bread I had baked before we left Ky. The third night it rained, so we splurged on subs from a pizza joint close to the park.
It was colder’n a bear outside, with temperatures in the upper 30’s to low 50’s. After having to purchase a new heater just yesterday, we determined that our old heater’s fan had not worked since we used it that first night. No wonder we froze at night. (Last night, we were snug as a bug in a rug) .
Actually, we didn’t freeze, we were very toasty in bed. We have a queen sized pillow top air mattress, and Bill had a mylar emergency blanket which he used as a bed liner, topped with a thermal blanket under the sheet, which prevents the cold from the ground from seeping up into our old creaky bones. We have thermal blankets, a quilt and a comforter on top, so we have a terrific cocoon to snuggle in.
On Wednesday., we decided to move closer to the town where I had my job interview on Monday, as I had a second interview there scheduled for Thursday. (Unfortunately, the interview was rescheduled for Tuesday…boogers!)
We are currently in a private campground, not a state park. It is a family run operation, consisting of campers and RVs. We are the only tent campers on the lot, but we have an electric site with water, so its all good. We insist on an electric site wherever we are, We may be homeless, but we are not heathens. I have to have my java.
It is a lovely place, with old growth forest surrounding the camp. The only downside, is that the bathrooms are not heated, and those seats are pretty durn chilly when you make a mad dash at three AM.
Since arriving there, it has rained every day, but it looks like it is clearing today. We have cooked our meals on a single burner hot plate. Actually only two dinners, as I made red beans and rice one night, and we had leftovers last night.
Ok, kiddies, I only have ten minutes left on the library’s computer, so…till next time
Peace!!!!
Donna

Good Luck, Donna, on the job interview. :)
Whutinell HAPPENED? I'm gone from the house from 5 to 5, and my laptop's been in th' shop since Saturday. This old monster hides me in my office, and th' Luvly Laura gets upset, so I haven't been on much. Obviously, I've MISSED something. Sumbody fill me in, please.
Check the article at the top left "The long Road..."...it explains why we're living in a tent.
It's great that you have found a way to enjoy this adventure.
ok, I am sorry, I dont want to offend, I am just trying to think of ways to help you all out a little bit, I think your attitude is awesome, so inspiring, I am happy that you and Bill are happy together~~~~~I hope that things work out soon for you all
HUGS!!!!!!
However, this reminded me of an overnight camping trip to a rustic campsite my boyfriend and I went to a couple years ago... We too have the air mattress and quilts, etc. But we always go rustic. Only take an old perk coffee pot and a saucepan and skillet. Everything cooked on the fire.
This particular trip my boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend were to join us. They showed up in the middle of the night. Pitched their tent and then had a 'elluva time..... no place to plug their heater - only one thin blanket - and 'horrors' no place to plug her blow dryer!!!
It was so hilarious!
The bathrooms did have showers and electricity, but they were back near the entrance, we always like the most remotest spot we can find.
What part of RUSTIC didn't they understand?????
And with me growing up with no electricity or running water and an 'outhouse', I think I could do this for awhile.
I have been keeping up with Bill's too!
I'm glad you're having a better time than I would.
Good luck with your job interview.
sure hope things work out for you SOON
I'm glad you're enjoying this and not feeling down about it (although I do relate to getting away from tension!). I still want to smack your sister. LOL!

Great Spirit...and I just know something wonderful is heading your way!!
