Diwali in white House--What Gandhi wud have felt

For the first time any President in white house is lighting a Diwali(A Hindu festival of lights)lamp. Indians are very very happy, Obama has made this great gesture,Let us imagine what Gandhi (Obama is agandhi fan) wud have felt.

Diwali a festival of lights is celeberated as a victory of good over evil.When Rama returned to his Home Ayodhya after killing the ten headed demon Ravana the people of his kingdom rejoiced, Every house was lighted and every citizen was happy, It gave them a hope of the rule of truth by Rama.

Ram Rajya(the rule of Ram ) was the Utopia for Gandhi. It meant a rule of law and justice where no body suffers from any kind of suffering- physical.mental or spiritual.No body is a poor.

Can Obama celeberate Diwali with pomp and showwhen millions are starving and the demon of violence and destruction is spreading its wingsl

Iam not against celeberations. Be austere.An incident Ican quote, It was Gandhi's birthday. his wife Kasurba did not light an ordinary earthen lamp filled with ordinary oil. Instead she used ghee made of cow milk.Gandhi was mighty angry anf felt grieved .

It can feel discordant to celebrate in the very presence of suffering. I know there must be a place for both and a balance in society. I respect that you bring this for consideration as we must be reminded to honor both the suffering and the celebration of life.

History is replete with examples of opulence in the name of religious belief when there is poverty and suffering all around.

What an amazing story. Dr. Ashok, is the story of Rama's victory over Ravana usually accepted as literal or symbolic? We have fantastic stories, as well-- such as Jesus walking on water. Some believe it literally, others symbolically... others not at all! :)
But this is an amazing story-- and I am wondering how Hindus view these things. The festival of lights sounds beautiful. It can remind us all of the victory of good over evil.

The Ram Rajya might remain amongst the other unfulfilled philosophical promises. Suffering has ceased to be Rajan's concern everywhere.
