Filippa Hamilton photos the 'net is crazy about right now:
And why are folks into Filippa right now? Well, the Ralph Lauren model was fired for being too fat. Here's the story:
A photo of Filippa Hamilton, a 5'10", 23-year-old, 120-pound French model, was Photoshopped dramatically for a Japanese print ad. That, as you can see to the left, is quite true. And Hamilton claims she was fired from her Ralph Lauren modeling gig in April because they thought she was too fat.
Last week, the ad -- which was only supposed to be seen in Japan -- made its way around the Internet. The model had a waist that was impossibly skinny, and her arms and legs were extremely thin, as well. It looks like comedy to me -- like a Steve Madden ad, with totally ridiculous proportions. People were outraged. And so was Filippa. "I was shocked to see that super skinny girl with my face," she told the New York Daily News. "It's very sad, I think, that Ralph Lauren could do something like that."
And that's not all Ralph Lauren did to her. "They fired me because they said I was overweight and I couldn't fit in their clothes anymore," Hamilton said. Ralph Lauren said in a statement that Hamilton is a "beautiful and healthy" woman but their relationship ended "as a result of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us." Hmm.
Hamilton is concerned about its impact on the public. "I think they owe American women an apology, a big apology," she said. "I'm very proud of what I look like, and I think a role model should look healthy."
What do you think -- were Ralph Lauren's "contractual obligations" unfair? Did Hamilton deserve to be fired?
