Your too fat! Your Fired!

Flippa Hamilton a 5'10", 120lb model who wears a size 4, says she was fired from Ralph Lauren's clothing company as a modle for being too fat.

What is wrong with people!?? Why won't the fashion and entertainment industries wise up and realize what kind of pressures they are putting on women?  Little girls, pre-teen girls and teenagers are looking at these models and want to emulate them.  It makes me sick that these children will grow up with self-esteem issues, bullimia, or anorexia.  And models and actress are putting their health on the line for the sake of skinny.  It's crap and it needs to come to an end.

As I walk around campus and go to school with these young people, I see these girls so tiny and worry that they may be too small.   Are they giving in to the pressures of fasion magazines? 

I know the Dove company is campaiging agains this kind of pressure and personally I think other companies should as well.  I also think that the fashion and entertainment industries need to get their head out of their a**es and stop promoting stick figures as beautiful.

I really don't know if they fired her for being too fat or not. They told her that it was because she couldn't meet the obligations of her contract or something like that. She assumes it was because of her size because they altered a photo of her that made her look very thin and it "accidentally" got out to the public.

I don't really know why she was fired because I don't know the whole story or their side. I don't think she's fat at all, she could stand to gain about 10 or 20 pounds even if she was small boned.

I just had a homemade peanut butter one and it was good! ;) I saw the model of the Today show this morning, the photo was ridiculous looking, noone is that thin!

Before I say it excuse the language but Ralph Lauren is an a........e!
I think there is much to be changed in this world and changing back to common sense from the ridiculous is one of those things.
I think that the people who revel in making size 0 clothing and trying to make women think they should shoehorn themselves into that size are just mean spirited bad people. They should have a palsy visited on them.

a good friend of mine is 5'1" and she's perfect at 120 of course that's my opinion. I have another friend who is 5'10" she's thin, and about 145 and she thinks that nearly perfect for her.

I don't buy much designer stuff as they all insist on these scrawny models to wear their clothes. Even Karl Lagerfeld (the designer for Chanel) said that he will not hire models who are heavier than a certain weight. He only makes clothes for women who are size 0,2,4, and 6, I think. He is fighting against the Plus Size Models.

I find it so offensive how skinny these models are. It is disgusting. Aside from how unhealthy it is to be so skinny.

I saw the Dove Models on Ellen's show last week. They are all so beautiful even though they are heavier than the usual model.

the only designer stuff I buy is if it's on sale and sold by Lane Bryant for those of us who look good in sizes 14 and up!

last summer I did a photo shoot for a local fitness magazine that was showcasing women fitness trainers over 40~ I'm about 5'4 on a good day if that and weighed 100 lbs at the time~ they asked if I could drop about six as the camera adds 10~ because I was under contractual obligation I couldn't tell them to go f*** themselves~ I was stupid and starved myself for two weeks and did th photo shoot~once I had fulfilled my contractual obligation with the magazine I did speak to one of the women who owns it and asked if she understood that if I had been an immature 18 year old girl how a request like that would have set me up for an eating disorder for the rest of my days~ she poopooed on it and said that i was making assumptions~ that's when I pointed out that she was looking at one of those girls many years later granted~

one comment, one picture. I have a large bone structure... when I was in highschool at 5'2" I wore a size 9 and weigh in at 145lbs. I was so skinny you could count my ribs.. but I kept trying to get small which was impossible for me. Why? because we didn't have a concept of "large" vs "small" bone structures back in the seventies ... I was just a fata** to everyone else and tried so hard to lose it. Now I am overweight and considered obese, but again part of my weight is in the bone. I had a doctor tell me I should weight 120... I know better. If I could lose 50-60lbs I would be healthier but I'm not going to starve myself to do it. I don't diet but I do eat healthy, low fat and mostly home made dishes.
and here I am at the other end of the spectrum~ and looking in a mirror is a daily nightmare~ I can never get too small~ and therein lies the danger~I understand intellectually that to get under 90 lbs is a virtual death sentence for me~ but it's a conscious effort and continous mind games to keep myself over it and to be okay with it~

I once was fired for being too thin. I was hired on as an extra to do flooring at a major law firm, and I kept falling through the cracks.
