In the upcoming issue of Oprah's Magazine "O" Susan Klebold, mother of Dylan Klebold one of the shooters at Columbine, gives a candid essay of her struggles to make sense of the situation. Her son, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed twelve students and a teacher in the shooting rage at Columbine High School in 1999. Twenty-one people were injured before Dylan and Eric took their own lives.
"O" Magazine Susan Klebold's detailed remarks, the only parent of the four to finally speak out, says she had no idea her son was suicidal until she read his journal after the high school bloodshed.
The Associated Press has an excerpt from Susan Klebold's essay:
"For the rest of my life, I will be haunted by the horror and anguish Dylan caused," she wrote. "I cannot look at a child in a grocery store or on the street without thinking about how my son's schoolmates spent the last moments of their lives. Dylan changed everything I believed about myself, about God, about family, and about love."
The issue of Oprah Magazine is due next month, I am sure it will be a hot topic considering this is the first time in ten years that anyone related to the boys has spoken about the incident.
