Well, the Bengals finally did what they needed to do and fired long snapper Brad St. Louis. There's part of me that feels bad for the guy (actually, it's my wife) and the other part of me that was looking online at tasers for sale because I pretty much wanted to kill the guy. If you are in the NFL and you are a long snapper and somebody knows your name, then you are in trouble.
It all started in 2006 when the Bengals needed just one win to make the playoffs, and they lost their final three. Partly because of St. Louis. In a game against Denver, he blew a snap on an extra point that would have tied the game. The problems have resurfaced this year in games against Denver, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Baltimore. That's just ridiculous, and so the Bengals have looked elsewhere.
Now, after 10 years in the NFL, I don't know what a long snapper does for a job. Maybe he goes out and sells wholesale scrubs, who knows? But 10 years is 10 years longer than I've been in the NFL with a 10 years more of an NFL paycheck. The dude can probably kick it, dress up as Indiana Jones for Halloween, and act like he just raided the lost ark. I know he's probably bummed, but the NFL is all about what have you done for me lately. Let's hope our new snapper, Clark Harris, is never mentioned again by name after this week.
