I read this earlier. Thanks for posting it. Fox likes all the good publicity the Obama camp is giving them. Glenn Beck is one of the most popular shows on radio and TV.

As I've said before, the reason why FOX and its pundits are #1 is because the aforementioned hate is nurtured and fed, and beautifully disguised as 'patriotism'. Heretofore shadowy or ignored "facts" are now all of a sudden definitive evidence of 'socialism' and 'government conspiracy to take away our rights'. FOX was nowhere near as popular before Obama ran, and so much more so directly after he was elected. But those facts are pushed aside because they fly in the face of what is needed to maintain the outrage and fuel the outcry.
Even the reasoning for the immediate and continued lust for guns and ammo are tied to 'patriotism' and the rumor that he'd try to take them away, despite the fact that its still only a RW rumor.

Facts can be and are twisted just enough to give credence to the underlying hate. As long as one can look in the mirror and pretend the costume one wears is that of a soldier instead of the scarier one, all is well within.

As to the fear of the current administration and the 2d amendment. Every bill brought up this year has come from Democrats. True he has not mentioned them and also true that he lifted a couple of restrictions. The worry is not about Obama but about a Democrat controlled Congress which is a lot more dangerous than Obama.

Democrats have been in control before. How close to civil war did we get then? Was there a mighty run on guns at the election of those Dems?

It is untrue that every bill this year hailed from Dems.

I agree there is hate on both sides, and it does need to stop. But the liberals at least only hate those who refuse to include everyone else. There are no KKK or CoCC in our ranks that I know of.

We are not close to a civil war now Catt. Things will have to be a lot worse before anyone takes up arms. When Bill Clinton was in Office gun sales wet up but they went up more when Bush 2 started messing around. They have been increasing for about 3 years now.

I don't know of any Repubs who have introduced a gun control bill. Who got the Brady bill in? That may have been a Repub. I would not bet on no KKK or CoCC in the Democrat ranks. I know they have infiltrated about everything. The KKK has an interesting history. It wasn't supposed to turn out the way it did. Did you know they wore those silly hoods so the Yankee Carpetbaggers would not be able to identify them? Those were desperate times.

The only point I can object to is: the firearm sales during Bush was due to terrorist fears and the only good thing about W.-- he was pro-gun-ownership.

Catt has issues she discusses with her psychiatrist (she admitted that in one of her comments) probably on a regular basis. Me thinks it is about being more positive - looking at the glass half full instead of half empty - that people have a right to their own opinions and can state those opinions without hateful comments.

I'm with Jack on this one. I get most of my news from overseas. I no longer trust the American news media.

It doesn't matter what party people suck up to with their politically correct nonsense their is no media outlet on TV or newspaper that has not sold out to one party or the other and all you get is personal political opinion not facts or the real news that happened.

Foreign news sources are much better because they do not have any reason to distort facts concerning America and its carnival type government.

That is right! Which is the reason I watch FOX News. I usually dont get to watch the opinion shows but the news casts in the morning show both sides and you get to choose.

It's truly amazing how your choice of tv viewing can make you a fool, a hater, and unpatriotic in the eyes of those who know the REAL TRUTH. Just the mere mention of Fox News sets off a Pavlovian response that can not be controlled. You would think any number of Gather accounts are set up to 'red alert' when an article containing Fox News is posted and the obligatory 'fools, mindless zombies, racists, haters, and smear merchants' comments begin to flow. It makes one wonder what these people think the catalyst is for this shift in audience share? I have never heard anyone on FOX praying for the death of the President. That is Anti-American. I am a conservative and although I dont agree with what the president does sometimes, he is MY president; he is the country's president. Even company asks about what we watch on TV and it is obvious we have no TV; takes up too much of my life. As far as Obama goes, I had a friend when loss for words would always state.

And of course the doctors, who oppose his medical bill. he trots out a few guys is white coats (which they do not wear, except on tv shows) and he says the AMA ( which only 15% of doctors belong to)approves (family doctors for cutting off legs when a child comes in for a tonsillectomy). He publicizes the cop in Boston, whom he disagreed with and said acted 'stupidly' without knowing the facts. Hospitals for gouging patients, when they make less than 2% profit and are legally bound to treat all who come in to the ER. Republicans for stonewalling him, when he did not let them into the initial planning. Religion ('Far too often, we have seen faith wielded as a tool to divide us from one another as an excuse for prejudice and intolerance'). Cheerios (for advertising). DeMint for his comments. Rush Limbaugh, Bill Kristoll. He removed bible quotes from daily pentagon briefings, He never says ' god bless my fellow Americans' as the past presidents have done. I could go on. . . THAT IS WHY FAUX SAYS NUMBER ONE IN CABLE NEWS. They also stretch the truth a bit calling what they do NEWS. The two top executives of the network have both said publicly that their broadcasts are BIASED FOR THE REPUBLICANS AND CONSERVATIVES.

Michael A. After a career in Broadcast Journalism I think I know how the Neilsons and other ratings work. FOX IS NOT NUMBER ONE, THEY HAVE A SMALLER AUDIENCE THAN CBS EVENING NEWS. THAT IS PRIME TIME, TO PRIME TIME COMPARISON.

EVEN Fox claims only the number one spot IN CABLE NEWS.

I know you, and I know you know better. FOX, IN CUME AUDIENCE IS NUMBER THREE NOW...AT LEAST IN CABLE NEWS. AND THEY GOT THERE RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION. Here is the story. IT SHOWS FOX NUMBER ONE IN INDIVIDUALS BUT NOT CUMULATIVE. I think that the data shows CNN to be the most trusted cable news network.

As even David Gergen commented, it doesn't behoove any politician to attempt to demean any of the media in any way because it only calls more attention to the very thing they are trying to squelch, and with a station like Fox with such a diverse audience that includes not only Republicans, but a large number of Independents and Democrats, the attempts to drown it out are self-defeating.

There may also be some confusion when it come to distinguishing between FOX cable and the locally based FOX channels. People who do not have cable or satellite will tend to watch those channels that comes in the best. Yes, there still are people who depend roof antenna and rabbit years and they don't have access to either MSNBC or CNN.

As for MSNBC drop in viewers It may also be due to the fact that except for the opinion news commentary based programs it is fast becoming the "True Crime Stories" channel and I have already had my fill of "To Catch a Predator" and programs about criminals doing time.

As for Michaels claim that 68 percent of liberals watch FOX news, I'd like to know what it is based on and if it includes those who watch the FOX affiliated local channel for their news. Not everyone is as addicted to national in international new and it is fair to assume that some of local Fox channels do a better job of covering thw local news as well as not all the local FOX affiliates being as conservative/biased as the FOX NEWS network when it comes to national or international news. In general I tend to find local news achors to be less biased that those who need national appeal to get higher ratings.

I can only speak for Phoenix Arizona, FIFTH LARGEST CITY IN THE COUNTRY. Fox network DOES NOT BROADCAST NEWS OVER THE AIR HERE. The Affiliate does present news, but it is locally produced.

And those folks who watch the local affiliate on broadcast rather than on cable probably do not distinguish between the local FOX affiliate and FOXNEWS which is not available to those who do not have cable or satellite.

I suspect that is true in many cities, since many cities did not grant cable franchises until fairly late in the game. Even then there was not a rush to cable since the broadcast signals were strong enough to prevent anyone who did not have the extra money to spend on cable to sign up.

I suspect there are still many people who rely solely on broadcast channels because due to the extra money angle, and some who rely on it out of pure stubbornness or the lack of the availability of cable, as may still be the case in some sparsely populated areas that the cable companies did not consider lucrative enough to bother wiring for cable. I have some relatives who were in the later group until a few years ago. They may still be in that group but the advent of the satellite companies make up for that lack and in the two cases I can think of it, having cable TV that was not the driving force. That was faster Internet access.

When it come right down to it, I suspect that unless you are a news junky or can afford to buy the premium channels, many people still spend most of their TV time watching channels that also broadcast over the air which is why the network broadcast news programs still have the most viewers.

Fighting a personal battle with an element of the media isn't smart. Nixon found that out and even someone supposedly as dumb as Bush knew that. Obama for some reason hasn't, which shows maybe Bush wasn't as dumb as many thought and just maybe Obama isn't as smart as some think.

FOX ratings took a slight tumble this week, as did Glenn Beck's(by 10%), so maybe at least SOME viewers are getting tired of their bombasts. It's certainly not news anymore.
