I have some lovely friends here on Gather who like to get their comments just right. I understand that. What I don't understand is why said individuals won't create their comments first in a Word or Notepad window, then when they're completely satisfied with the wording and spelling, they could easily cut and paste the comment into the comment box and move on to the next discussion.
That would be what happens in an ideal Gather world.
Instead, I have about 4 connections who post a comment, then remove it to change it, then post it again, and they'll do this sometimes 6-8 times before getting the comment just the way they want.
And each and every time they hit the submit button, I get an email notification telling me that they have commented.
One day, 3 of the 4 were actively commenting on my posts. That meant that in the span of a few minutes, I received 27 emails about comments they had made. But, in reality, they had only made one comment each, three total. It just took them that many attempts to make the comment "perfect" for posting.
Sometimes, I forget that these perfectionists do this, and I'll comment before they are finished with their masterpiece comments. If they delete their comment and my response stays, I look rather silly commenting about nothing.
Grrr. Just once, I'd like these 4 lovely friends to leave a comment as is if there is a tiny mistake, and to add a second comment saying, "Ooopsie. That should be xxxxx."
Okay, rant over. :)
I still love you guys.

Personally, unless I have a glaring typo or syntax error, I never delete a comment. I totally go along with Robert Heinlein's third rule of writing:
"You Must Refrain From Rewriting, Except to Editorial Order"
It never fails that even when I proof the box before submitting, for some reason, I don't recognize the mistake until after it's been posted. Sometimes I even read it after it's been posted and still don't recognize it until I've read it again. Sometimes I don't notice it for days, but then it's too late.(lucky for you) I know that I just have to be one of the four because I do this constantly. I am so sorry, Marilyn.
Oh well. I still love ya.
Then...I got an email from someone about how I was not responding to comments on some old post and I was making people angry. So I turned them back on again, and just get notices when someone comments on one of my posts.
Oh that's their problem is the way I look at that. If they get angry. I don't worry about replying to old post because that's what they are, "old post" You have to remember on Gather a lot of people look for reasons to be angry.
