The coming storm is the second book in Tracie Peterson's "Heirs of Montana" series. Heirs of Montana book 2, the sequel to Land of My Heart. I usually like to start with the first in a series but in this case I started with this book. It was so easy as the book itself was a complete story and needed no introduction from the first book in the series.
I was drawn to this book because it is historical fiction. I love history. The book takes place in the early frontier days of 1870 while the Midwest was being settled. It deals with many prejudices such as color of skin, who should own land, slavery and so forth. It paints a vivid picture of the people of the era as well as the land on Montana itself.
The characters consist of women and men of all colors and backgrounds. Their fight for survival unites them in a way that only nature can accomplish. It shows the strength and faith of women as they are forced to be strong. I cried and smiles right along with the characters of this book.
The author has the ability to write in a way that the readers feels a connection with the characters and the land itself.
There are 4 books in this series and I intend on reading all four. I give this book a 5 star rating and recommend it to anyone who loves to read historical fiction and the bravery of women of the frontier.
