To all my good Friends at Gather. Today is the first day of my new life, At the young age of 60 I have retired from my working life. From leaving school at the age of 15, to Joining the British Army, at the age of 18. to taking part in along forgotten war. and taking part in four hostage situations, one in my country one in the Netherlands and two in North Africa, from the freezing cold nights in Northern Ireland, to the 500 jumps from aircraft, four from a great height. To getting married to a great woman who had my two children. too seeing my two children grow up to be fine adults, to seeing one of them die, to see the other one get pregnant with my first grandchild. From working in what some now would say was a humdrum job, I have now given up working for a living. from now on my life is my time and of course my wife's, no more getting up at the crack of dawn unless of course I want to, no more getting in late at night, no more working away from my home. I can now at last do what I want, to travel to the country's that I have never been too, I can devote myself to more writing, I can relax in my garden, I can walk the dog three times a day or more, If I had one that is. all in all its been a roller coaster of a ride and now I am free. yippee.

I came out of my so called retirement a few months ago-I am still trying to figure out why. but it's only a few hours a week. Get's me out of the house.
I hope that you can remain free.
Congratulations, dear friend. You've more than earned this -- enjoy every wonderful minute. Yes, take the dog 'a walking, spend time with your wonderful wife and child (so sorry about the other child), and grandchild.
You're free... and I'm so happy for you,

A toast to you and your wife, "May this new exciting chapter in your lives bring greater personal fulfilment than you ever thought possible! Cheers!"
Congrats Graham.
by the bye, I used your two great articles on the NHS and British Services to try to explain a point today!
Now get a dog to take on those walks!
Lets not and say we did. Thank you, writing a book is actually something that I have thought of for sometime, who knows it just might happen.
