Another Sunday has arrived, and this means we are once again taken into the lives of the Walker family while they deal with another family crisis in this third episode of season four titled Almost Normal. This time one of the family is sick, and we learned that on last week's episode. Kitty has cancer, and this week we learn just how bad the cancer is and how much it has spread. That is how we start things this week. At the start of the episode, only three other than Kitty herself know she is sick - Nora, Robert and Sal. Nora needed to tell someone, and we all know her go to person is her brother. That has always been the case, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. We learn that Kitty's cancer has started to spread. She is in stage three of her lymphoma, which is still treatable.
The doctor gives her a couple of options. One of those is the standard form of treatment, and the second is a clinical trial out of Boston that has had good results. However, the treatment would take her away from the family for six months. To Nora, this is unacceptable. She feels Kitty needs to stay with her family no matter what. However, Robert thinks the trial is a good idea. This puts the two of them at odds and fighting over what is best for Kitty. The two manage to come to some sort of agreement, but not before we see an all out family battle with everyone somehow getting involved at yet another one of Nora's family dinners. Kitty feels she has to come clean to everyone when Kevin finds out about Kitty's cancer from the aid for the governor. When Kevin comes to her to find out what is going on, she knows the secret needs to come out.
She tells everyone at once, even if Kevin and Sal end up bursting into tears before she even has a chance to say anything. The family is shocked to say the least, but in true form they all gather together. Kevin and Scotty decide to postpone their baby plans, and Rebecca and Justin decide to postpone their wedding. However, once Kitty hears of this plan, she goes to them and talks them into putting their wedding back on. Rebecca even asks her to be her maid of honor. So we have a Walker wedding to continue planning, and everyone is trying to do their best to help Kitty through this time. We all know they like to blow up in this family, but they know how to group together when they need to, putting aside their differences.
While dealing with Kitty and her illness, Justin is also dealing with medical school as he starts Gross Anatomy. His lab partner is a Doogie Howser type. Sixteen and in medical school already. Even as tough as he talks, it is the partner that has first day nerves when they are presented with the cadaver. Justin has to talk him back down. Things also seem to be getting interesting at Ojai when the strange man that met with Ryan at the end of last week's episode returns. Turns he used to be an old business partner of William's who ended up in jail because of William. It looks like he wants his revenge now. This story line will have to develop more, but I'm curious to see what happens next.
As for the family, by the end of the episode, we see everyone gathered together at Kitty's, and Sarah even returns from her Paris trip at the last minute. We all know just how close these two sisters are, and Kitty needs her more than ever. She needs her family more than ever, and that leads her to stay in Los Angeles for treatment instead of going to Boston for the clinical trial. She even wants her and Robert to stay with her mother during her treatment to make it easier for her. He agrees, so it'll be interesting to see how that works out as well. This season of Brothers & Sisters seems to be shaping up well and dramatic. Something this family seems to do best. What did you think of this week's episode of Brothers & Sisters?
