I'm glad you posted it again, I did not see the first one..... what a great way for looking up stuff in places I've been, or am going to very soon!

I guess this is for Halloween but - there's no such things are ghosts and no such thing as magic.

You're probably right, but it's fun.

Whether you believe in ghosts or spirits, there are places tht are haunted. We have many in California.

The Watson-Curtze mansion in Erie, PA is a local ghost story that's based on historical facts. General "Mad" Anthony Wayne was on his way to Buffalo by ship when he had a bad attack of gout. Erie was just a frontier military outpost at the time, and Anthony Wayne died of gout in the Wayne Blockhouse, an historical site here. His son came up from Philadelphia by horse and wagon to pick up the body of General Wayne to be buried in Philadelphia. But there was so much mud on the roads from Oil City to Erie that his wagon kept getting stuck. General Wayne was a heavy man and there was no way that wagon was going to get through the mud with the extra weight. So the local doctor suggested boiling the flesh off of the bones, and that way the bones of General Wayne could be buried in Philadelphia. And the flesh of General Wayne is buried in Erie. He is known as the only man to be buried in two different places, and the big, black pot that was used to boil his bones hangs in the Watson-Curtze mansion. I saw it myself on a sixth grade field trip :-) And all the kids said, "E-eew, gross!!" LOL, but we loved it, too, because gross-out history really appeals to sixth graders.

The spooky Halloween ghost story is that the ghost of General Wayne rides back and forth on his horse between Erie and Philadelphia, looking for his bones.

This is a cool story and perfect for sixth graders! I remember mine being morbidly fascinated with Egyptian embalming procedures. With kids that age, the grosser, the better! LOL

I've heard of General "Mad" Anthony Wayne. Fort Wayne, located in Detroit, was the induction center for Army recruits. Not a desirable destination during the Viet Nam war.

They've recently started an annual "spooky places" tour in Erie that's sponsored by the Historical Society here. For a fee, you can get on a guided tour bus around Halloween and visit all of the "hauntings" and the guide will tell both the history and the ghost story of it.

On the peninsula, there is Misery Bay and Dead Man's Pond, their actual names. Back during the War of 1812, Erie was the site for building the warships. So many shipbuilders caught pneumonia while building those ships during an Erie winter that they named the bay "Misery Bay". And the men who died from pneumonia over those winters, they threw the bodies into "Dead Man's Pond". No kidding. I have no idea if those bones were ever dredged up, but you want to talk about some historical fact fodder for Spoo-ooky zombie and skeleton stories :-)

This is useful--especially when you understand there are such things as 'ghosts' They are residual energy manifested into a form complimenting or taking away from what we know of spirit-forms.
