The Damned United - movie review

Michael Sheen (from Frost/Nixon) and Colm Meaney (from Star Trek Next Generation) play the two characters which are rival managers of Football (we call it soccer in the US) teams in England. Michael Sheen managed Derby and Colm Meaney managed Leeds United.

Michael Sheen is a blustery big mouth who is "taught" to keep his mouth shut...

It's a story of men bonding and being friends and being enemies.

There's some football, but it's mostly the relationship of Michael Sheen's character to his team, his friends and his obsessive rivalry.

I read the review of it in Entertainment Weekly, but I'm kind of confused. It's based on a true story about a guy coaching a soccer team for a very short time because he was fired? The review in the magazine wasn't very detailed.

He coached a team in Derby - brought it from last in second division to tops in first division. Then he was hired by Leeds United - he had a lot of trouble figuring out what to say and often put his foot in his mouth. He insulted the players from Leeds United, so they lost the first few games, and he was sacked. He went to another team after "eating crow" with his ex-assistant whom he'd insulted.
Eventually I think he learned how to control the anger that he'd spew... and grew to be an excellent manager.
