Ack!!!! I spent a couple hours this morning between commenting here on gather looking over the sales ad and getting coupons ready. I took off to the store.....final total AFTER coupons was $106.55!! What?!?!? How in the world did I spend that much??
The store is having the sale where you buy 10 of the certain items and you get an additional $5 off your bill. I ended up with 26 items in my cart that I had coupons for, for an additional $10 off my bill....and I used $20 total in coupons. hhhmmmm
I got a whole cart full....and I did get some good stuff.
The Green Giant Steamers are on sale for $1.99. I got 6 bags, and $4.80 off total with my coupons, plus the additional .50 off each for the special. Making them just .69 each....good deal there.
2-Freshetta pizzas on sale for $4.99, used 2- $1 coupons plus the additional .50 each making them $3.49 each....not a bad deal.
2-bags of Tyson breaded chicken on sale for $4.99, used 2-$1 coupons plus the additional .50 off each, making them also $3.49 a bag...also, not a bad deal.
3 box of New York Texas Toast on sale for $1.99 each, used $2.80 total in coupons plus the additon .50 off each, so $1.06 each box....pretty good deal.
I bought 4 Pillsbury Crescent rolls on sale for $1.77 each, used $2 total in coupons, plus the additional .50 off making them just .77 each.....good deal, especially for us since we love them.
2-Pillsbury Grands Biscuits on sale for $1.73, used .60 coupon, plus the additional .50 off each making them .93 each...pretty good deal.
2- Bags of Totinos pizza rolls....hhhmmmm, I thought they were on sale, but my receipt is showing regular price of $3.19. I did use .80 in coupons. (I will take my receipt back to the store and question these!!)
2-Healthy Choice entrees, $2.20 and $2.29, I guess also not on sale, but part of the $5 off 10 item deal. I used a $1 coupon making them $1.99 each...another hhmmm
Then I got some Hillshire Farm Lunch meat on sale for $3.33, and used $1 coupon.
I know these added up my total. I LOVE Carnation instant breakfast, it's been my breakfast for years. I did buy 4 boxes, not on sale for $5.99 each, but did use $2 in coupons.
I also bought my daughters birthday cake which was $19.99 and 3 Breyer's ice cream of her choice which was a total of $8.97
and....I bought 4 bags of Willy Wonka Laffy Taffy (part of Halloween treats to hand out), not on sale for $3.59 each back. I did use $2 in coupons.
I did get a $4 coupon to use on my next shopping trip for buying the Pillsbury and $3 coupon to use on my next shopping trip for buying the candy.
Receipt says I saved 31% between sales and coupons.
I sure hope I can make a better showing next week on my shopping!!

Think about it , $20.00 for a cake compared to no more than $6.00 if you make one and decorate it yourself. I guess I am just a frugal person but I have always felt that the homemade cakes were better and much more economical.
P.S. I had 5 children and worked full time but still made time for the homemade cakes and other baked goods.
Coupon shopping takes a little while to get into but it is worth the time spent.
Does the store offer a double in-store coupon? If so, remember to pull that out of the circular too. Some only match up to 25 cents or 50 cents per coupon, but that would still shave a few bills of your final bill. (Grab a handful of circulars when you come into the store; usually they're near the front or at customer service; you can just tear out the double coupon from those at the register. Many are good for up to four coupons on one double coupon.)
As far as your coupons for next purchase, I've known of people dividing up their purchases so they can use the first cash-back coupon on the next segment of groceries, and the next cash-back coupon on the final segment of groceries. Using the $7 off on this trip would have brought your total below the $100 mark. Psychologically this could have made a big difference in how you felt about the success of your trip.
I hope these tips help! Meanwhile, some stores will retroactively apply coupons if you bring in the coupon and the receipt. If you missed something, you may be able to take that added deduction as cash back the next time you head to that store.
Best wishes,
Jennifer
