Maurice Sendak Tells Parents to Go to Hell?

His answer to a recent interview question was shocking, to say the least.

Maurice Sendak was recently asked: "What do you say to parents who say 'Where the WIld Things Are' may be too scary?"

He reportedly said: "I would tell them to go to hell. That's a question I will not tolerate... If they can't handle it, go home ... Do whatever you like, but it's not a question that can be answered."

Well, um, alrighty then!

I don't know if it looks to scary but his answer alone completely turns me off his book and the movie. What a jerk.

The book wasn't scary...my kids loved it when they were wee ones. Isn't it about imagination? An imagination is a good thing. TO me and I assume to my kids, it was clear that it was all about creating a world out of your imagination.

Well, if someone were attacking my "baby" and they didn't HAVE to I think I'd say the same thing. No one has to make their kid go see this movie, just like every other movie in the world.

The book is awesome. I don't know if my kids would find the movie too scary but they love the previews and so do it! I will absolutely watch the movie and allow my kids to as well. If they find it too scary then they don't have to finish watching it.
