Whining about the decision of a fairly large committee of foreigners to offer great honors to the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES makes you look very small Marilyn. It is befitting that you use the icon you do.

Obama's Nobel Prize is getting the same kind of SOUR GRAPES reaction that Carter's did.

You should be HONORED to be represented in the world by a man that the world thinks so much of. AND DID YOU SEE THIS, BECAUSE YOU SHOULD.

And what were you trying to prove by posting a link to that article? It seems to be saying that a lot of people can't beleive that he got the award and they question whether or not he deserves it. Even HE seems to be saying that he doesn't deserve it.

AND THAT IS EXACTLY IT. How do we second guess a committee decision? If you did not make the nomination, or the decision, WHAT IS THE POINT DISCUSSING THE VALUE OF IT.

The issue should not be did he EARN the award, but DOES He embody the concept of the award? Personally, I think his election has at least created an environment where peace is possible.

Well, I read the article too and I have to say, his final observations are funny.
I'll add that most Americans didn't know much about him before he ran for president, so how could this 'fairly large committee of foreigners' know enough about him to give him such an award after 12 days actually in office. Since in those 12 days I can't see anything that would have made him eligible for the prize, what would have happened had he lost the election? What did he do to promote peace while he was campaigning? I'm sorry, but I just find his being awarded this with nothing substantial to back up the reason for the prize itself to be quite funny, and a sad state of the mentality of the whole world.

Neither was Nelson Mandela who was barred from entering the USA up until July of 2008 because he was considered a terrorist. He was only allowed to enter with a special waiver prior 7/2008.

this is really interesting. these folks are SO predictable Marilyn. They are just like the tele-marketers. They have a pre-written list of come-backs. No matter what is said, they have an answer. Barack H. Obama became President as a junior senator from Illinois in less than a full term and now has won a Nobel Prize less than a year in office. It's just not fair OMG! What's Shawn Hannity or that fool Glen Beck saying now? I'm not sure what Grand Ma told Marilyn but mine told me every time you point your finger that there are four pointing back at you.

The award itself is as meaningless as the rock and Roll Hall of Fame is. But I was still under the delusion it was for achievement. Hence the feeling I awoke in upside down land.

An Obama supporter spun it to me this way today "This shows us the rest of the world believes our choice of president symbolizes the chance of peace." Really? That's all there is to it?

How delightfully faith based! Not peace, not the promise of peace but the whiff of the hint of a rumor of a chance.

If its more important to be a symbol of an abstract concept than to be directly responsible for action that caused the hoped for result, the rest of my life is going to be pretty easy. I am going to merely symbolize some attributes: charity, fair play, whatever.

Maybe the committee is trying to manifest peace by acting like its being accomplished. Since of course, he will eventually do something peaceworthy why not give him an award now? They can always award another one when he does it right?

A few years ago there was a high school spokesgirl for abstinence. She got pregnant. But in an interview, she continued to extoll the virtue she had represented. Such is the power of symbolism.

I visualize, therefore I am. There is so much I can do with this logic. Very well written piece.

Obama was hired to do a job. The "Office of the President" is no longer what it was. It is a job. If he does not do his job he will lose it. Hopefully the "powers that be" will not let him lead the country into becoming another Newark, N.J.!

Obama winning the Noble prize is like a kick in the gut for those that loved and admired the policies of GW Bush for the last 8 yrs. I understand their anger and dismay that the light has been turned on and for 8 yrs sooo much of what they thought was right was really wrong. It shakes up their world.

Brian, this had nothing at all to do with Bush. It has everything to do with, once again, a man is being rewarded for doing nothing.

I don't know about the others who abhor Obama's policies, but I was not fond of Bush policies either.

I'm not so sure what the award was based on but Obama had 2 best selling books- which some tried to claim he didn't write even though he was editor of the Harvard Law Review in college. Came from a single mom who had to depend on food stamps, died of cancer and had to battle her insurance company on her death bed.

Graduated Harvard with honors, could have went into corporate law and made a million dollars but became a community organizer instead. Taught Consitutuional law at the University of Chicago- Obama knows a thing or two about the Consitution believe it or not. Became the first African- American president of the USA and inspired kids that no matter who they are in this country, regardless of race or ethnicity, that they don't have to have a silver spoon born in their mouth that they can become president. If only based on that.; I say Barack Obama deserves a Noble prize, even though I didn't know he was up for consideration- for other things. So I guess the man has done nothing- LOL.

The University of Chicago where Barack Obama taught law has won 82 Noble prizes and this makes 83. So don't be surprised if Obama end up with a few more awards while in office.

If he continues to sell out the US, I'll continue to be against him. If he cannot figure out that spending money does not help our economy, I'll continue to be against him. Pretty words don't mean a thing. This award means nothing. It's been cheapened by giving it to a man who has accomplished nothing.

If Barack Obama tells kids to stay away from drugs and not to do some of the things he did growing up then the right wing will say that it's not his job, it's the parents job. This is where the right wing is coming up less than honest and is losing (some say lost) their credibility. No body is right all the time, no body is wrong all the time. And this is (nothing personal, you know I'm a honest man and proud of it, I never made a comment or a post that I didn't feel wasn't fundamentally true) this is where you lost your credibility and have become as bad or worse than the guy you're against on the flip side. You very seldom if ever quote a newspaper as opposed to a blog with a right wing slant and the right wing slant is that Obama is always without fail, even Bush wasn't always wrong without fail.


If credibility and truth is the standard, you have personally failed the test just as much or more than you claim Barack Obama has. If credibility matters with Obama it matters with you also- me too, that's why I'm calling it like it see it.

Right. It was fine for everyone to criticize Bush, but heaven forbid if anything negative is said about Obama. That's reality. And reality is that he's more worried about impressing people outside the US than fixing anything here. Of course, that could be because he had zero experience to begin with.

I really don't like bashing Bush. It is necessity! That you don't let some-one spin the reality even before you have fixed the problem, because from my experience problems don't go away, they only get worst. The Political reality is you can only take on one thing at a time. So bringing up the past and reminding folks of what has just happened is a necessity. This is our mistake and this is how we made it and this is who made it and this is why. Now since we know who, how what and why, basic logic foundation blocks we can now work on the solution. George W. Bush didn't make all the mess, but like the US is like any living thing. One disease usually won't kill you, but start adding in complications and you end up with the common cold causing one's death. Bush allowed too much to happen! Now he will be blamed for what either others started or others did on his watch and he didn't stop. Rory, it's insane to blame Bush for the economy as we have discussed many times in the past. What happened was not his fault. It began before him and it is many times worse now that Obama is in office. And since he nor any of his staff has any business experience, it continues to get worse and worse and probably will until he's kicked out.

Instead of worrying about what the rest of the world thinks about him, this president needs to figure out - quick - what actually stimulates the economy. And that's not government spending.

Demand creates Supply. Where is demand going to come from? Now is the problem that jobs have left the US. So has investment, Watched Mad Money lately? Without the reform needed you won't get the investment when the world looks at your Wall Street as shade tree enterprizes. You won't be price competitive with your base labor prices as long as Insurance goes up at 10.8% per year and talk about cost shifting to business and individuals by the insurance companies. When European private insurance companies can opporate on 6% administration costs and United is at 43% and the average is 30% and 25% PPO (Kaiser) there is too much differential. That is jobs lost and raises not given. Base labor costs have to be passed on to the consumer. Just economics!
