The nomination deadline for the Nobel Peace Prize is February 1. Obama took office only 12 days before the deadline.
This article shows: How To Win The Nobel Peace Prize In 12 Days
It mentions what Obama was doing in those 12 days.
Here are some of the entries:
January 20: Sworn in as president. Went to a parade. Partied.
January 21: Asked bureaucrats to re-write guidelines for information requests. Held an "open house" party at the White House.
Then, towards the end of the 12 days:
January 29: Signed Ledbetter Bill overturning Supreme Court decision on lawsuits over wages. Party in the State Room. Met with Biden.
January 30: Met economic advisers. Gave speech on Middle Class Working Families Task Force. Met with senior enlisted military officials.
January 31: Took the day off.
February 1: Skipped lunch. Threw a Super Bowl Party.
The writer, Tommy De Seno, concludes that the way to get the Nobel Peace Prize is to go to meetings, skip lunch, skip church and party. That appears to be what Obama did in his first 12 days of office.

Note: I believe he's still skipping church. Not sure about skipping lunch. I guess he's having trouble finding a pastor who preaches like Rev. Wright.

Marilyn! Love it!
Obama's Nobel Prize is getting the same kind of SOUR GRAPES reaction that Carter's did.
You should be HONORED to be represented in the world by a man that the world thinks so much of. AND DID YOU SEE THIS, BECAUSE YOU SHOULD.
The issue should not be did he EARN the award, but DOES He embody the concept of the award? Personally, I think his election has at least created an environment where peace is possible.
The Daily Mail, a London Paper headlined the news "Nobel shock and awe as Obama gets the Peace Prize after only nine months in office"

I'll add that most Americans didn't know much about him before he ran for president, so how could this 'fairly large committee of foreigners' know enough about him to give him such an award after 12 days actually in office. Since in those 12 days I can't see anything that would have made him eligible for the prize, what would have happened had he lost the election? What did he do to promote peace while he was campaigning? I'm sorry, but I just find his being awarded this with nothing substantial to back up the reason for the prize itself to be quite funny, and a sad state of the mentality of the whole world.
Gotta dash now..............don't want to miss Glenn Beck tonight..................maybe he and the rest of the Fox talking heads will donate some of their money to .......

I think we ought to be happy that an American won. :) Let's face it, Dick Cheney wasn't in the running.
Hello! What is it that you guys don't understand about getting awards? It's not suppose to be a beauty contest or a popularity contest.
2 wrongs (or 3) don't make a right.
Brian, it's not that it's not fair. It's ABSURD. There were 205 nominees. I'm sure that at least one of them had more than 6 months experience.
It's the same reason they can be "activists" for so many causes. They don't do anything except get online and argue about how we have to hug trees and eat vegan, but don't get involved. Heaven forbid.
"Guess that was another of his lies. "
What did Grandma say about people making accusations, Marilyn?
The award itself is as meaningless as the rock and Roll Hall of Fame is. But I was still under the delusion it was for achievement. Hence the feeling I awoke in upside down land.
An Obama supporter spun it to me this way today "This shows us the rest of the world believes our choice of president symbolizes the chance of peace." Really? That's all there is to it?
How delightfully faith based! Not peace, not the promise of peace but the whiff of the hint of a rumor of a chance.
If its more important to be a symbol of an abstract concept than to be directly responsible for action that caused the hoped for result, the rest of my life is going to be pretty easy. I am going to merely symbolize some attributes: charity, fair play, whatever.
Maybe the committee is trying to manifest peace by acting like its being accomplished. Since of course, he will eventually do something peaceworthy why not give him an award now? They can always award another one when he does it right?
A few years ago there was a high school spokesgirl for abstinence. She got pregnant. But in an interview, she continued to extoll the virtue she had represented. Such is the power of symbolism.
Gotta admit. I wish I'd thot of it first.
HERE'S A BLOG you may enjoy reading..........
Graduated Harvard with honors, could have went into corporate law and made a million dollars but became a community organizer instead. Taught Consitutuional law at the University of Chicago- Obama knows a thing or two about the Consitution believe it or not. Became the first African- American president of the USA and inspired kids that no matter who they are in this country, regardless of race or ethnicity, that they don't have to have a silver spoon born in their mouth that they can become president. If only based on that.; I say Barack Obama deserves a Noble prize, even though I didn't know he was up for consideration- for other things. So I guess the man has done nothing- LOL.
Obama campaigned and through his skill as a politician and orator he was elected. That election restored America to its traditional role as world leader and served as a public renunciation of the Bush era unilateralism. That in itself was worthy of the nobel peace prize. You guys cannot accept that the foundations of your ideology are an abomination to the entire world and the man who has hammered a path toward a sustainable future, AWAY from EVERYTHING you believe should be honored. In typical RW political stupidity this article suggests that NOMINATION equals award. No, it does not, but you of course know that. He recieved the award for the accumulation of efforts SINCE election as well as election itself.
Get ready with the sack cloth and ashes because this is the first of MANY awards, commendations and laurels he will recieve in the next 8 years and the decades beyond. A prediction from me you can sleep on: One day Barack Hussain Obama will be nominated and will serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. You saw it here first.

You Right Wing-nutz went ballistic when Obama first took to the skies and flew to Europe and the Middle East. "He's APOLOGIZING!" you bellowed. "How DARE he?" you screamed. "America is STRONG!" you panted. "America cannot be seen as WEAK!" you sobbed. And ALL of it was manufactured bullshit.
The President wasn't apologizing, and he wasn't making us appear weak (You don't have to hit people and insult them to appear strong, anyway). What he WAS doing was, he was saying to them, "We're gonna stop being asshats now. We'll get back to you on the rest of it. Have a nice day."
By the way, have you read that the committee was not all pleased at Obama's getting the award?
Pretty words don't mean a thing. This award means nothing. It's been cheapened by giving it to a man who has accomplished nothing.
If credibility and truth is the standard, you have personally failed the test just as much or more than you claim Barack Obama has. All because your personal passion in disliking the man has blinded your reasoning. Like I say I'm an honest man, just giving an honest opinion. If credibility matters with Obama it matters with you also- me too, that's why I'm calling it like it see it.
Whether or not you want to be credible or continue doing more or the same and lose more of your credibility as a writer is up to you but make no mistake credibility and ethics matter.
What would Jesus do, since you claim to be a Christian? Of course were're not Jesus but he would be truthful without partiality and probably wouldn't be part of an ongoing campaign against a person. But the good news is that we'll all have to face him one day and our deeds do catch up with us in this life or the next.
I don't have to defend my opinions with links, Brian. What I think is what I think.
I don't see you defending your opinions with links. It's not possible to do that.
No one can be so blinded to think that 1) this man had enough experience to even be elected and 2) that he did anything that would make him a contender for this "prize". Unless they're blinded to the truth staring them in the face.
What would Jesus do? He didn't lie, and neither do I.
I don't just claim to be a Christian, Brian. I am one. I have been saved by grace. I don't claim to be perfect because none of us are. But I am sincere and genuine in my faith.
Instead of worrying about what the rest of the world thinks about him, this president needs to figure out - quick - what actually stimulates the economy. And that's not government spending.
