I love my grandpa so much. He's such a kind and wise old man. As he's gotten older, he becomes so emotional when he's around his family, but I imagine that when you are seeing your legacy in front of you, it's very impacting. My wife told me about someone at her work who knew a man turning 95. On his birthday, he's celebrating by doing 95 jumping jacks and 95 push ups. That's impressive. I don't think my grandpa could pull that off, but he's in pretty good shape for 88. He kept away from items that would damage his body through the years, like smoking or alcohol. And for 25 years of retirement, he's played a lot of golf to keep in shape.
He's got a lot of great hobbies. He loves wood working. You can get him any kind of wood, and he'd love it. He was so happy that he bought these wood knobs and worked on them for our knew house. He put a beautiful stain on them and offered them as a gift. At 88, he still lives at home with his wife. There are a few modifications to their house, but not many. They have a walk in tub to help prevent falls in the bathroom. By the way, whoever invented those and other fall prevention products have done a great job! I don't like it when children don't take care of their aging parents, but the reality is that we have to work, and these products help prevent a lot of accidents.
I'm looking forward to the holidays when I can drive up to Michigan and visit my grandpa. I cherish any time that I get with him now.
