Same here Leslie - I couldn't take it anymore.... I doubt Mr. Kyl has any clue what so many of us are going through and I'd also bet my entire bank savings of $4.72 that if any of his family were going through what we all are, he'd not be pussy-footing around on this. I even asked for a response on his "contact me" page, wanna bet I don't get one? After all, I live in Ohio and he couldn't care less about anybody not in his state.
C'mon Mr. Kyl - come stay with me for a week and see how it is in the real world... You like mac-n-cheese? How about some fried bologna sandwiches? You can help me rob Peter and Paul to pay the electric bill... Bet you're good at that with all the experience you have ripping off the American People...

I understand completely how politicians have no empathy or understating of a working family in this country. I mean, how could you. They most likely never made a minimum payment on anything.

The working population is getting exactly what we deserve; taxation without representation. We allow our politicians to bail out failed leaders and institutions while giving our jobs away - going out via H1 visas and coming in via illegal immigrants.

Giving the average working American sort of a left jab and upper cut combination.

I hope they never pass the legislation. That’s right, no more unemployment. But don't stop there. In fact, lets freeze increases on all social programs. So the leaches in our country can simply die off and go away.

In essence, lets see how long our existing congressman stay in power when there is no food to eat, energy to move us and opportunities to motivate us.

We keep putting on a band-aid when we need surgery. Our systems are failing. What will it take for the American Public to realize that we don't have to take it anymore?

Right letters, vote, email, fax your leaders asking them to do nothing. For this is the only thing they are really good at. In reality it is the safest thing for our interests. In fact, write them with conflicting positions and points of view. This way they will continue to do nothing so we all must get a moment of clarity and see how really screwed we all are.

I agree. God Bless America! God bless the America and its unemployed workers who have carried this nation. The situation we currently find ourselves in is the result of years of political greed, crony capitalism and outright corruption by all of the incumbants. I want them all gone - out of office. It is time for an independent party to step to the forefront that will not operate through political cronyism.
Do we not understand that this current economic crisis was inherited by the current administration.. And how convenient that it was held back JUST until the election of a new administration. Do we not want to recognize that this is the epitome of politics as usual? It is time to stop pointing fingers at anyone other than ourselves as the means to find our ways out of this mess. We all must join together for the common cause of protecting Americans, its citizens, and our values - or we are all lost as a nation.

Vote for independents. I am not presently registered as an independent, but I will be. And I will be looking to vote the old incumbants out of office in favor of a moderate platform that conveys the values and interests of most Americans.

So the matter is urgent to me and millions of others like me, but Senator Kyl wants to review it over the week end, no doubt over a golf game, some caviar and champagne!!

It's really not unusual that a man like Jon Kyl would attempt to train wreck the unemployment extension. He is known for his drunken episodes where he and other GOP cronies do anything they can to attempt to "botch" an issue submitted by the Democrats.
Kyl stated last week on Fox News that he didn't think another stimulus or extension to benefits was a good idea. This guy is a first class clown.

Outrageous...but not surprising. Just sent off an e-mail expressing my displeasure. The voters will have their say eventually and give this guy the boot. Unemployment is a non-partisan issue and we as a country are facing the most challenging time since the great depression. This guy has got to go.

We the people should get to vote (at our own leisure) on wheather our Senators should get paid for their services. While I'm not a fan of Kyl, I would like to know his reasons before placing judgment on his action. For instance, how hard is it hitting small businesses if the unemployment is expanded? It's possible that extending it might actually cost more jobs.

Excuse me sir, my measly $300 unemployment ran out six weeks ago and there isn't a job within a thousand miles of here. So, thank you for delaying the unemploymnt extension. Next time you take your millionaire's lobbyist paid trip with your girlfriend while I'm starving, thank you. Hypocrite. These benefits aren't just for me. 400,000 families are screwed because you and yours screwed up the ecponomy to begin with for 8 years and you didn't seem to care how much it cost to screw up Iraq and wherever else and give millions in no-bid conracts. hypocrite. Then, you give billions to banks and credit card companies who further screw us, thanks so much and when we need the smallest amount of help you delay it on bogus grounds. THANKS. The only question left is what level of hell will you end up in, no matter what it will be hot. Two million families will be left without benefits next month. And even when this bill passes, with all your BS it will take weeks, months to get signed and then it takes the state 4-6 weeks to process. SO THANKS for nothing. Senator Kyl must receive a lot of campaign money from corporations; therefore, he feels the need to show that he will fight this additional tax. Fourteen bucks per person doesn't sound like a lot to us, but let's say that a corporation that has 40,000 employees has to pay this tax over the next 2 years = $14.00 x 40,000 x 2 = $1,120,00.00. That's no small amount of money. The extension will still get passed. He's just demonstrating that he's doing something, even if it's nothing more than a delay tactic.

Since almost none of America's corporations pay any tax, having to pay this tax will be a good practice run for them. They need to develop tax paying skills because at some point they'll have to give up using those off shore accounts for tax evasion.

The ironic part is that on television this morning, they reported that people are calling in sick more than in the past. The main excuse, I believe, was that they are "stressed." How about just lazy slobs who don't feel like going to work. Quit and make room for those of us who would love to have a job to go to. As for the politicians, I don't think I can use the words I feel like using.

hey yes this polition is a a-hole but i just did my benifits for shits and giggles knowing my claim ran ot last week and bam there was 8 grand in my account it comes out to about 18 weeks so i dont understand it so i filed as usual and it says check is on the way.

well this will be my last post I can post. My internet, phone and tv will be shut off anytime from today until thursday. I am waiting to hear about 2 jobs have had interviews with and now they cannot contact me b/c of your delays. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I am starving since I save all the food for my kids. My unemployment ran out in the 1st week of september. My landlord has been totally understanding and I am lucky since I havnt paid him rent in 4 months. He fully understands because he has been out of work for 2 years. HELP US AND STOP THIS MADNESS....pass the bill.

I was told some of their emails are full because of all the other stuff such as the health care bill so just emailing them or blogging about it may not be enough. Please call them in Washington on their direct numbers. If it is busy, just hit end call and have it keep redialing until you get through. It only takes a couple of minutes and is the best way I think to make your point known. The only thing that matters to them is your vote so next chance I get I am voting all incumbants out.

No updates on the unemployment extension so far...I make it my goal to apply for at least 5 new job postings a day, but still no dice. What are we all going to do?

And by the way, the bill was first put up for a unanimous consent a week or so ago and a Democrat, Sen. Shaheen was the dirst to oppose it. The bill was out there all the time from 9/22 and she woke up the day of the vote and decided to delay things. Why wasn't she working on changes since 9/22 I do not know. We all knew about it why didn't she? She could have approved it as is, and taken care of a lot of people and then proposed amendments later but she chose to stall everything. Once she amended it, it went up for another vote and now a Repubican has stalled on it so it's not just the Republicans.

#unemployment Fair enough, KF, but Shaheen opposed it to amend it to extend coverage to all 50 states. She wasn't opposing it on ideological grounds. She was opposing it because even if it passed it would do nothing to help half of America.

I too thought the bill should have passed from congress, but understand ALL states deserve it and agreed with amending it first. Then I saw Jon Kyl blocked it and thought he should be ran out on a rail, and told him so. Then today, I have learned that the very idiots that amended it (Reid, NV) padded it with other nonsense and this is why John Kyl blocked it. There are very few honest politicians without their own agenda and now even the Dems are playing politics and we are paying for it. Don't believe me? Why is the new version 6 pages long? It's like all bills, it contains pork. It like all bills has fine print that has pissed off the other side. POLITICIANS! JUST WRITE IT TO EXTEND BENEFITS TO EVERYONE THAT QUALIFIES IN EVERY STATE, PERIOD! IF YOU WANT TO PASS SOMETHING ELSE, SUBMIT A SEPARATE BILL!

Unemployment Benefits Extension

The House of Representatives approved its version of the unemployment benefits extension on September 22. According to news reports, 16 Democratic Senators subsequently delayed Senate consideration of the bill while they attempted to negotiate special treatment for their states. After two-and-a-half weeks, on October 8, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) finally brought a new version of the bill to the Senate floor – with no input from the Minority and just about an hour-and-a-half after the new version was introduced.

Senator Kyl supports an extension of unemployment benefits, but acting in his capacity as Republican Whip, he registered an objection to the immediate consideration of the bill on behalf of some Senators who wanted a chance to review the legislation and consider amendments, including how to pay for the extension without raising taxes. Some also believe the Senate should do more than just pass an unemployment benefits extension; it should take up legislation that will get the economy moving again and put people back to work. Otherwise, people will simply find themselves in the same predicament when their latest benefit extension expires in 14 weeks (20 weeks in states with high unemployment).

#unemployment Thanks for this info, Donna. It's a bit of a cop-out on Kyl's part. The last section is fine - address the issue of long-term unemployment, but in the meantime still pass this emergency extension!

As per above: Helloooo? Take up legislation that will get the economy moving again and put people back to work. YEAH, right! AND just how do these 'for the people' Senators plan to DO that when they can't 'SEE' the IMMEDIATE daily needs of the people who voted for each? PUT the people back to work? By what plan? HOW long will it take?

I am in dire straits at this point. I have received my last unemployment check this week. I am a single mother attending graduate school and average 4 to 6 applications a week for employment with no luck thus far. How am I going to provide for my daughter and I? Please, do the right thing! And please do it QUICKLY! Thus far, my credit is ruined, the stress of wondering how I can make it day to day is eating me alive....do the right thing and help us who have always helped ourselves! I could be your daughter, your sister, your mother or your friend.....please have some empathy! Help us!

I am in dire straits too. Last week was my last UE check. My husband starts his third tier this week. Woopee $108/week, plus SS. I'm going to keep going in to report, in order to remain in compliance. So when the HR 3548 is approved, I will have my ducks in a row. So everyone keep that 'remain in compliance' with the four week reporting in to your career center and the weekly online filing, too. Let's hang tight - together!!! Let's keep the faith and keep each other uplifted, not tear down by angry words! We are all in the same boat. Working on getting my mtg modified. Time will tell.

Yes, Donna I haven't thought about the "compliance" to keep everything in order. WOW...I am really getting worried. I have never been in this position. Now I can haver true empathy for those suffering just like me. I really feel hopeless, even though I am in grad school and have a degree.....the field is so competitive, I spend 3 to 5 hours a day faxing, delivering, calling about jobs/resumes. This guy needs to seriously have some compassion!!!!! I am trying to remain dignified and kosher, but my patience is wearing thin.....

I, for one, am appalled at the Senate's stalling of the Unemployment Benefits extension Bill.
I think this takes precedence over Health Care Reform as Health Care means nothing if you are homeless, without food, or money to pay for any form of Insurance.

I am also sick to death of the false reporting regarding the economy.
How can there be recover in a jobless job market? I truly hate my intelligence being insulted.

Unemployment is at 16% in Michigan, it is time to act NOW-No more hold-ups and no more stalling.
