Today on AOL I read a story that I am ashamed of. Â Jonathan is a 16yr who feels dressing as a female expresses who he really is. Â The school has decided he needs to dress more manly or be home schooled. Â Even went as far as to blame him for a fight that broke out, because of his style.
Ok first of nice job blaming the victim, way to go public school system. Â Feel great about it. Â *rolls eyes*
If they are going to attack Jonathan then they should attack anyone who dresses in a fashion that attracts attention. Â Those cheerleaders in their short skirts distract a lot of young boys, the "goths" I was always fascinated with. Â I bet there are a few girls who dress/look like men and I bet they aren't attacking them. Â Threating them to join home schooling, it's a double standard. Â I get there point they are trying to make but it's going to do more harm than good, there will always be distractions, it's best to teach the other students how to handle them than try and remove them.
Personally I think there is a law suit here, the school should be teaching acceptance because in the "real" world people dress however they want. Â You jump someone for it and you end up in jail, your parents won't be able to control the judge like they do the principal. Â They are doing a disservice to themselves, the system and the students who will one day be running their town.
I really thought we had come a long way in the close mindedness, guess I was wrong. Â He knows the "risks" of dressing like this, as we all know the risks to expressing ourselves, some people aren't going to like it, I just hope he stays strong. Â I also hope that the stupid school staff will wake up and see what they are doing. Â If not i pity the students going thru their school.
What are you thought?

Under rules such as this, girls should not be allowed to wear pants.
Huhh??
let him be what we wants to be ... as long as he's covered up.
You said it all!! :D
The boy should be applauded that he is willing to show his true feelings and is confident enough to do so.
And you wonder why many teens wait until after high school to come out of the closet, that is truely sad they are forced to suffer in silence because we have closed minded people.
Tolerance--live and let live.
Their rule is unconstitutionally vague and will be repealed once a lawsuit is filed.
The only exception is a dress code that was all ready in place. If such a code exists and he is breaking it then the school can complain.
My guess is they don't have a leg to stand on.
The kid should know that the way he dressed would cause problems. Being different in school isn't easy.
Those that attacked him need to be punished, not just taught. Let them know also that there are consequences to their actions.
The school can only do so much, and they are trying to make things as easy as possible for all those involved. Each school usually has a school board that is elected by the people of the district and they make most of the decisions. They can make dress codes, in fact one of the local ones near me has gone back to uniforms due to problems. As much because of T-shirts that had sayings and pictures not appropriate for that age, and girls purposely wearing overly revealing clothes.
Was homeschooling the only choice or was it the main one, or was it just the one that the media picked up on. It may have been one of a list of options they gave. Is homeschooling a wrong choice?
The school district is grasping at straws when they say that his apparel is distracting other students. Honestly, he could wear jeans and a t-shirt, and, if he hasn't been beaten by the ugly stick, there would be at least a few people getting distracted... and he's probably a bit distracted by a few people himself. Teens get distracted by other teens... and by teachers... and by celebrities... and... Well, you get the picture.
Anyone who remembers adolescence and is honest knows that there are a whole lot of "distractions." And, for most adults who aren't completely burnt out on life, there are still "distractions."
