With my severe anemia, my Dr. is recommending I have an iron transfusion. My current Iron level is an 8, and I think it should be around a 14. It has been as low as 7.
She left me a message on the phone today, that according to the test results, she wants me to have the transfusion.
So I am going to see if I can get that set up early next week. We recently got insurance (this month), but my husband was offered a better job, so the health insurance will be going away probably by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, I am trying to get a lot done before then. I already have new glasses ordered, an appointment in the morning to meet with a surgeon to see if I have a hernia...and if I need surgery or not.
Here are some of the symptoms of anemia:
What are the symptoms of anemia?
Anemia can make you feel tired, fatigued, weak, dizzy, irritable, short of breath or depressed. With anemia, you may also have pale skin, brittle nails, chest pain, a coldness in your hands or feet, or an irregular heartbeat. Some people with anemia also have a desire to eat ice or other peculiar things, experience sexual dysfunction, or have trouble concentrating or performing mental tasks.
I have an intense desire to eat ice, get tired easily, short of breath, pale skin, brittle nails, coldness & I get sores in the corner of my mouth all due to the anemia. Also, restless leg syndrome is related to low iron. So I hope with this iron transfusion...that maybe I won't need my RLS meds anymore!
The process of the iron transfusion takes about 4 hours - but I can't wait to have it done. I've been living with this anemia for a long time now....and I am hoping to get it taken care of.
