if there are problems with the bible.....why are they constantly quoting it?? "it says so in the bible." but you don't like what it says in the bible; so why quote it??? who is the author of the bible & has this person given permission for a rewrite? it's gonna take awhile for everyone to learn the "new bible"....so no more quoting!!! (sorry; i'm getting a little crazed here!!)

I think it's only fair that different Christian groups should have custom tailored versions of the Bible.

It was done during slavery and I guess the time has come to rewrite the Bible again, Lord knows the world is out of control. That will really help to get them re-elected. NOT!

I guess so many have shown these Bible thumping nut jobs that what they are spouting to all in their sphere does not jibe with what they really mean, so they have to re-write it, as their concept of what Christianity is is much closer to the Black Arts than they choose to believe!

Actually, I think it is hilarious, Georgiana. But I predict that it won't get very far. Too many Christians are adamant about the KJV of the Bible. It is "truly" God's word. They won't recognize any kind of revision. I would love to see this become a big issue, splintering the Religious Right, but it ain't gonna happen.
If you think about it, they don't need a rewrite. They all interpret it however they like now, to suit their personal political agenda.

There are a lot of "custom" versions of the Bible ... most don't get a lot of circulation. How many on Gather have read the Jeffersonian Bible?

At this point, it matters little. The King James' version is not a totally-faithful translation. The translators worked from Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, and chose to change wording here and there so that laymen (peasants et al) could better understand certain passages. Most modern-day Christians regard this as the "true word of God".

Recently, manuscripts dating back to before the ones used in the KJV have been found, but little has been done to incorporate them. Most of them have been relegated to the annals of Apocrypha.

I exaggerate the grammar and spelling but I read the article presented, and if that is ENGLISH as the Bible will end up with, under no circumstances should the author of the aforementioned article be permitted to tamper with even the Berkley Edition of the Bible as translated from the Aramaic, Greek and Latin. Read it again, that author is dense.

I tried to read a bad translation of an Italian newspaper report. I started out knowing the bare bones of the story. I finished knowing that I needed a better translation. It was contemporary Italian to Contemporary American English. It was also incomprehensible.

The King James Version is notorious for supporting the Monarchy, the aristocracy and the feudal system of governing society. Every other translation to English depends on the KJV to provide interpretation.

I guess this means they took Jesus was a Liberal and You aren't acting very Christian seriously. And since the Bible is the only reference many of them use in any discussion they have to make sure it supports their dumbass, backward ways.
