The idea came from my favorite author, but I wrote the ceremony. I started this for my daughter when she became a woman and I’m hoping that this will be a new tradition for all the girls in my family.
When a young girl starts her period, the oldest member, female is preferred (but if no female is available then the father can do the ceremony). The ceremony is that the eldest female family member takes the young woman and all woman of the family out to a sit down dinner at a restaurant or makes a fancy meal.
This is the ceremony that the eldest members says -
“Welcome (newest member name) to the wonderful family of womanhood. You have a great responsibility. To be true to yourself, be an example for all the women in your sphere of life. Never to be controlled or pressured to be other than yourself. No one has the right to touch you without your permission. Give your love to only one person that proves that he can and will be responsible for you and himself. That he treats you with respect, acknowledges and accepts that you are a strong individual, able to know and let’s you speak your own mind. If he’s the right one for you, you will know it and he will ask you to be the keeper of his heart. And if you’re the right one for him, you will ask him to be the keeper of your heart.”
What do you think?
