So Far, I Have Made $1,920 on Gather.
I made it to my 1st $1,000 around the time of my gatherversary. I am nearing my next thousand probably within the month.
So, how do you do it? It's all about networking, posting, and giving back. I have made a lot of friend on gather so it's impossible for me to see everyone's work. Still, with so many connected friends, there's a near everlasting amount of posts that I can go through. In fact, sometimes when I have an hour free, I'll just look at pictures and then click on the links at the top to further pictures and before I know it, I've commented on 100 pictures.
Make this your community and you'll never feel like it is work. You'll simply post and look at posts, and you'll manage to accrue points while doing it. Remember to look at the works of your friends. You'll earn and they'll earn for the work that you do. It is a win-win situation. As always, I do appreciate any feedback and thoughts on my posts as well.
Anyway, keep doing what you are doing and this will hardly feel like work.

I'm working harder these days to post more.
If I start thinking of this as work, or how much points or what not more then likely I will leave again. I get a little obsessive. Then the fun is gone.
I made a little here, I bought a couple of my plants as babies off ebay with the earnings here. That was kinda neat. Gave some to a cancer patient. Disability doesn't pay much but if I keep making this place fun who knows I may have a little spending money.....
I really never thought about people making that much $$$ here.
