School has only been in session a few weeks and I've already gotten asked by atleast 15 different friends and family members to purchase items for their current school fundraiser. They are also set up in from of grocery stores as you enter as well, tis the season of fundraisers!
The principle of my kids school doesn't want "his kids out selling door to door." Those are his words, he doesn't agree with it and won't make his kids do it! Our BIG fundraiser each year is the Spring Carnival. We are a small school, 320 students, and the carnival always raises between $8,000 and $11,000!
In the fall we also have what we call a "non fundraiser, fundraiser" where a very nice letter is sent hom with all the students. Attached to that letter is an envelope that the child has decorated. The letter asks for any donations that the family can manage. Whether it be nothing, $1, $5, $20, $50, $100 - the amount doesn't matter. The letter also asks for the students to return their envelopes back to school by a certain date, with money or empty. The teacher's collect them and for every class who has all their envelopes returned, they win a class ice cream party. The donations are totally anonymous, so none of the students feel left out. Last year it raised almost $4,000 and it's 100% profit and there's zero overpriced junk to buy!
We don't have to sell $1 candy bars, $15 cookie dough and $10 wrapping paper - THANK GOODNESS! I'd much rather just donate money directly to the school!
What fundraisers does your child's school have?

Mooch
I also hope we never have that envelope thing. I would have to give him something to put into it regardless if I have the money or not, I would have to come up with money to put into the envelope.
This would embarrass my kid to no end bringing in a empty envelope.... sad but true.
My childs class does raise funds with a restaurant they run. They get donations from local farmers, and federal money that helps. Then it is $5 a plate. Every Friday. My son has been on front page of the newspaper several times now for advertisement and he could only not participate one time. This was devastating to him.
Our community is poor, sorry to say. This economy has interrupted the school like no ones business! Parents not working, loosing there homes, then moving away. Sad!
my son's girlfriends kids are doing the catalog thing...at least that has a wide variety in both choice and prices. It's the one where even if they only sell one item they get a prize, and the more they sell, the more prizes they get. This one is so much better than the stupid bread....what is wrong with the PTA at the grandkids school?
Fundraisers suck!!!! The easiest one is the candy bars....they are so easy to sell!!!!
I think they need to find some other way to earn money, especially in this economy.
I told him I would go out and buy him stickers, but he is still mad with me.
books they got with stuff to sell but I really don't have
the income to do that anymore. I feel bad saying no to
them but what else can I do.
I like that last idea you had with the envelopes.
