Grandma, tell me a story

Hello Carol,
My grandparents are both passed on and lived across the country from us.
However when either one of them took the time when we visited to give me a little of there attention it made me so very happy!! I loved to hear there stories!!
Some people get tired of those who tell the same stories over and over again, but I actually look for those people to talk too.
Since I was little I was at the doctors who for the most part were older people with me in the waiting room and for the most part I got a lot of attention from my elders. They would tell me of the "olden" days and I just loved it!!
I think this is a great idea you got going! Some of today's youth just do not have there older family members living near them or alive. Some do not want to take the time to listen, then others are starved for the stories only the elders can tell!
I am one who will keep watch of the stories of my elders. Some things just can not be learned in books or on tv!

I only knew my grandparents in passing as they died younger than most.
But, my aunts and uncles filled in and I am so grateful. I am writing it all down, as I can, and keeping the letters and stories for my great grandchildren. They are 1 mo. 6 and 8 yrs old respectively. History is our self evolvement, I think. Glad to hear from you.

read me a story, but not tell me a story

Too bad everything has to be written down. For centuries oral history and fables kept our past alive.

Both of my parents were wonderful story-tellers. Mom told true stories about when she was growing up(depression years and the early years o f her and Dad's marriage( post-WWII.)Dad r-forght the warand wmy siblings and I were amazed that Dad practically won the war all by himself!
With the help of my brothers an sisters /i'v started writing a book for our family - retelling those fables (or history,)I'll share a few of them with you soon,

My 5 year old grandson just did this the other night he did not want to watch a movie he wanted a story, and we had to have popcorn, blankies, and candlelight, so I told him a kind of scary story but not very scary, he is excited about Halloween, we are decorating his porch tomorrow.
