Why the United States lost the Olympics!

Well Allan, I like your theory lots better than the other one I saw on Gather this morning, the one that said, blame Obama for everything. That one made no sense- as you say, Chicago olympics was never going to happen in the first place.

GWB's place in history will be solidified, long term, as a disaster of foreign & domestic policy that we are now just BEGINNING to pay for.

Sorry, Allan but I see this as all what the British call poppycock. You seem to forget that it was the United States that was attacked by those from overseas and brought on the "reaction" that came with the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. Do you also condemn Israel for protecting itself but condone the Hammas for attacking without provocation?

9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq Don, that was Bush getting even for his father. If they had f gone into Afghanitstan full tilt that problem would be solved by now. As iit is, that war might be lost too while the US is stil trillions in debt!

Allan: Interesting because I had the same idea about our going into Iraq as you have mentioned above. However, it also occurred to me that Sadam ensured that we would attack him when he was evasive about inspecting for WMDs. He practically invited the attack for some insane reason by being so obstinate and evasive about inspecting for these weapons. Personally, I don't think that anything over there is going to solve anything. People can't understand that the Afghans are a very primitive people and that all our good intentions of "modernizing them" will fail because they need to "grow up" to the 21st Century on their own. Their fanatic take on Islam (not the fault of Islam itself but of their take on it) will not permit them to "grow up" no matter how much money and good intentions are "brought into them." Even American Muslims are sadly backward in their view of religion except for a very, very few. We should get in there, decimate the landscape and get out. We are not going to change them no more than they are going to "change" us. Both we and "they" need to "grow up" to the reality of our times. We must come to a common knowledge of the phenomenon of religion as distinct from "Christianity" and "Islam" and "Judaism", all out dated (by intent of the Creator) and cause division and dissention when the purpose of religion is to "bind together."
How did I manage to sneak Israel into this? Sneaky; huh? I guess it's because I sense in you a rather "liberal" frame of mind that wants to blame everything on one man, Bush, when it is our whole society that is corrupt and mismanaged. This political "one upmanship" that is going on now and before is the cause of most of the world's problems plus the vacuous idea that somehow "we are right and they are wrong" from both sides of any issue.

Don I don't know what sort of crap the American news services feed you people but Saddam kept claiming over and over that there were no WMD and Al Queda did not exist in Iraq and he was absolutely right. He also said he would get out for a billion bucks but the US said NO! Thats because they wanted him....... it was personal.
As for Afghanistan, that place is a lost cause until they can drag themselves out of the twelfth century. Best put a giant fence around them instead of Mexico and Canada.

Allan: You are correct in general. However, Sadam was not only a liar in general but a murderous tyrant. Anything he said was suspect and his actions in preventing full inspection belied his professed innocence. If he had not played cat and mouse, he would still be in power. I have no sympathy for him or Iraq in general. The Iraqis are almost as primitive as the Afghans, if that can be imagined. They are religiously dangerous in general and murder each other (Sunnis vs Shiites) and have for centuries. We are making our biggest and most naive mistake by thinking that somehow we can get them to have a so called "democratic society" like we have with our "modern values." Nonsense.

And incidentally, we need bigger and bigger fences between Canada and Mexico and the US because that is where our enemies come from. I think you are right in that the base motive for our attack against Iraq was a personal family problem with the Bushes but it was helped considerably by the actions of Sadam and his arrogance. Yet all this is academic now. We should turn it back into a desert and leave it that way.

You're right. Our government agencies would be worried about a terrorist attack and it would be a huge hassle for Olympic tourists to go through all the check points and stuff.
