I did something I have never done before today. It was actually pretty comical and I couldn't stop myself from sharing it with all of you. I had read on a post yesterday (I'm sorry, but I can't remember who wrote it) that you could let your kids write in shaving cream to help them learn their letters or numbers.
I needed some extra bribery today because it was fingernail/toenail clipping day for the kiddos. It had been a while since I had trimmed their nails and they were starting to look like something out of a Halloween movie. I promised them a big surprise if they let me trim their nails. Thing is, I didn't really have a big surprise, so I had to do some fast thinking. I remembered the post from yesterday, and I went in the bathroom and got the shaving cream and thought to myself, "Well, here goes nothing."

We practiced writing Maddie's word list for kindergarten.

Then I let the kids play for about an hour. I never saw them having so much fun with something so simple as a can of shaving cream.

Aidan informed me that he needed to shave his arms. I said, "Go for it."

Maddie decided that she needed to shave her arms too. (They have both seen their Mommy do that in the bathtub, which is another whole story in itself, that will have to be saved for a later date.)

Lets not stop at the arms. Lets just shave our faces too.

If you are not afraid of your kiddos making a big mess, the shaving cream was a huge success and brought about alot of giggling and laughter.

There will need to be bathing involved directly when you get done playing.

But your kids will think you are the coolest Mom ever. I have a few years before they start hating my guts. So I'm enjoying being cool if only for a little while.
PS---I'm also going to post a video of them playing in the shaving cream in a little while, and it is definately a must see.

Shaving Cream Art is "Da Bomb."

Somebody told me in the summer when it was hot, they would take chocolate pudding outside and let their kids play in that, then wash them with the hose. I forgot to try that one.
However, another thing you can do for the same reasons is use sand. I was taught this when my teen was much younger and couldn't read. He is 18 and it does work.
Sand is good too. We have drawn the kids names in the sand at the park before.
I also was taught to use a screen. The kind you placein a window. As the feel of it will help the kids running their fingers over it. I never tried that one.
Hope you are having a great weekend.
We did have. Now we have to go out and buy another can for Lenny. ha ha ha
Hope you are having a good weekend Marianne.
It's scary to even wonder if my 15 year old would have that much fun with a can of shaving cream.......legally. She just looked at these and said she would rather go drive the car around. Figures.
All 15 year old want to be driving the cars around. I know I did. LOL!!
Thanks again for the tip. My kids had a blast.
Kids need to be told that.
Yes, very important. My kids know all about it.
I got me a 18 month old to have fun with gma will be the coolest..
And it DID.
I've noticed that the shaving cream is a great cleaner for the table!
They know not to eat the shaving cream though. It did make the table really shiny.
Also while they were playing they kept saying, "It smells like Daddy all over the kitchen." It was funny.
There's a video of the kids doing this. It's hilarious.
