In May, my mom passed away. On that day, a baby great horned owl fell or was pushed from it's nest at her home. As we gathered over the next days, we checked on the little owl, and he became weaker and colder. After the memorial service on Sunday, we again checked, and the owl appeared to be dead. The mom and other baby were still up high in the nest in the tree. I decided to give the owl a little burial and picked it up, and it moved just a bit. I decided to take some action, and ultimately located a raptor rescue, just 10 miles away! I turned the little fuzz ball over, and Gayle, the raptor gal stuck him inside her shirt, and took him away. She then packed him with baggies of warm water, and tube fed him liquid and hoped for the best. This past Saturday, October 24, GG, as we called him, in memory of my mom, was released at the mouth of the Ford River, in the upper penninsula of Michigan, just blocks from where he was hatched. What a sight!! We had a great group in attendance, and I'm waiting for some photos.
