Sometimes memories of love
Are all there is; recollection
Of the fat girls you made love to
In the darkest of nights;
The slim girls you had to bribe
To let kiss; the tall girls
Who undressed like giants
Preparing for battles,
The short girls who dressed
Ready for games or another day

At the office; the loving girls
Who made life that little bit better,
The rough girls who didn’t;
The young girls who seemed
For ever young; the old girls
Who grew older like trees,
Scarred and wrinkled with
The passing of time and whose
Skills of lovemaking, were
Honed to perfection.

Sometimes memories of love
Are all there is; memories
Of their words; their looks;
Their embraces; their kisses;
Their long hauls into the night
With passions high; and then
The recollection of how many
Of them have gone and died
And how many await the death
Bell and how many hanging on
For sweet life fearing their time to die.
