How Important IS: Ambition to YOU???

Does it matter if you are the top dog? Where's your ambition stand? Do you aspire to get ahead of others in your work place or in life?

I'm pretty content, more money won't hurt but i'm fine with where we are.

I want to be good at what I do, by trial and error, i'm not a cut throat type of person. My career is different then most.. i work alone for the most part.. and do team meetings. I like what I do, just wish I got paid more.

I'm pretty happy with where we are at the moment, although, once Natalie gets out of school, I'd like to go back to work or take several college courses.

Frankly, yes, ambition has always been important to me. It was important in my choice of friends when I was in school. I socialized with other students whose desire was to go to college, for instance. And it was important to me when I was working full time to socialize with persons who desired to get ahead. But it extends beyond the work place. I also prefer being friends with people who desire to be the best parents and church friends who desire to learn and grow in their faith. I am never content being around people who love the status quo. Nor do I understand people who want (or merely allow) others or the government to take care of them rather than trying everything they can - including 2 & 3 jobs if necessary - to take care of themselves. That's the kind of world I've always lived in and surrounded myself with - people who use and develop their own talents for their own (and society's) use.

Well, I can't go any further at work. There are only two of us, the executive director and me. I don't consider myself particularly ambitious, I don't care about being top of the heap. More money is always nice. When I left the hospital when my baby was born, I was a supervisor of quite a few people. Its important to me to do the best I can at any job that I have..although the job I have now, people don't die if I screw up, whereas before they could have.

I've never really cared, but I've always advanced ahead of others. I probably felt good about it, but I don't think the advancement was my driving force. I just wanted to do a good job.

The job I had there was not to many places to go !!!
The last job I had who wanted the headaches and them telling you ok pick up and move to this state.

I guess ambition can be defined differently by where we are in life. I've known and worked with many people who have a virtual alphabet of credentials behind their names. From this I've learned that you can have any title and still be a dumba$$.

I was never one who craved recognition or titles as this conflicts with my want for anonymity and to lead a drama-free life. I don't wish to be better than anyone but myself. I'm a workaholic in obsessive pursuit of perfection, which often leaves me annoyed by those who are not.

I do wish to be paid more, but that's more for accomplishing goals for myself, friends and family. My mom often said, "Consider yourself lucky if you have few problems that money couldn't solve." She was so right.

I certainly worked to progress up the ladder when I was younger. I reached where I wanted to be - and here I sit.... nowadays, I'm just looking forward to retirement!

I don't care if I am top dog but I do keep instilling being ambitious to my son who is far from it. He doesn't care if he gets great grades or not. He has little self esteem which is problematic.

I haven't really been concerned about thing the top person but I have worked hard to be where I am. Need to work on a few things. There you go . . .

I make very little money compared to the majority of people in this world.
Infact, in some places, im below the poverty level.
But I am happy where I am.
I have never tried to have "more" than I really need, but its sure nice to find a dollar laying on the sidewalk from time to time.
My job can be very stressful and most of the staff I work with are not competitive.
Its just doesnt work in my line of work.
Has to be teamwork!
I was a little ambitious years ago, but I grew out of those selfish, greedy ways.

I just want to be successful and be able to bring in a good amount of money, so that our family can live comfortably. At other jobs, I've gotten recognition for doing a good job or a raise for doing a good job and that's enough for me. All of this climbing the ladder bs is too stressful. I'd rather get praised for what I'm already doing and keep doing it, but possibly get a raise, as well.

You have to have some ambition or you will just sit around and not do anything. It may be actual physical desires or it may be keeping up with the Joneses'.
For me it's like the way I look at the lottery, if I win a smaller prize I feel good, I don't have to win the jackpot. I think pushing too hard and trying to go too high just puts pressure on you, and may be worse then no ambition at all.
