Award winning filmmaker Roman Polanski was arrested in Switzerland and is fighting extradition to the United States, where he faces sentencing for having sex with a minor 32 years ago. Polanski, pleaded guilty but fled the U.S. before he could be sentenced in 1977 and has been living in France. Prosecutors have consistently argued that it would be a miscarriage of justice to allow a man to go free who “drugged and raped a 13 year old child”
Should the United States pursue the 32 year-old case against filmmaker Roman Polanski?

A fugitive member of a local group that distributed LSD worldwide has been arrested after nearly 40 years on the run.
Brenice Lee Smith, 64, was arrested at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday after flying in from Hong Kong, the OC Weekly reported.
He is being held at the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City, a jail spokesman said.
In the 1960s, Smith was a member of the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, a group of hippies who lived in shacks, tents and caves in Laguna Canyon, dropping acid and smoking weed. The group, which was associated with psychedelic guru Timothy Leary, evolved into an international hashish- and LSD-distribution network that was eventually brought down by authorities.
The group smuggled hashish in from Afghanistan and Pakistan, and produced high-grade LSD nicknamed "Orange Sunshine."
The Brotherhood of Eternal Love was nicknamed the Hippie Mafia in a 1972 article in Rolling Stone.
Smith was one of the group's founders, and was returning home after years living in exile in Nepal, according to the OC Weekly, which first reported the arrest.
Anyone who perpetrates a crime, any crime, should do the time. Even more so if the victim is a child.

I think there is more to this than anyone knows but yes I agree if he did it, and he was found guilty then he does need to serve some time.
Oh...and charges against children can't be dropped by the victim.
I never knew he anal raped her...I can't imagine the hell she went through back then. Look at all the people who have been jailed for stealing because they were broke and spend years in prison. He did a very sick thing to this child...so if the court has pity, they should let the people who were poor and did crimes go free too.
I agree that he should, indeed, be forced to come back to the USA and made to pay time for his admitted crime. Otherwise, his case will be used as examples of how similar sickos can beat the rap.
However, I somehow, feel that there is more to the story than just one incident of molestation. The authorities might already have some additional incidents waiting in the wings. And now, DNA matching can be used, provided that evidence can still be gathered from the women whose lives Polanski most likely ruined.
No namby, pamby slap on the wrist with electrical cuffs sentencing either. Throw this guy's posterior into the pen and toss away the keys. No mercy. No excuses. No exceptions.
Even though he fled, it doesn't mean he may not have been going back and forth. Afterall...he's a movie mogul with business still to be done over hear. He has enough money to come and go, albeit briefly, to do business or see family. He wouldn't have any problem flying under the radar. So...in theory OUR children are still at risk. Not just Switzerlands.
however, I'd make the loser pay a fine, rather than put him in jail. take the pedophile's money...
