So You Think You Can Dance usually heats up your summer months, but it is taking to the small screen to also heat up your fall. Season six of So You Think You Can Dance is underway, and we're now in the audition phase of the series. On Tuesday night, we had the So You Think You Can Dance judges hit Atlanta where apparently fourteen dances out of the many that tried out were picked to move on to the next round in Las Vegas.
The big news after Tuesday night's show was a So You Think You Can Dance flash on screen by one of the dancers. She was so excited to receive her ticket to Vegas, she fell to the ground and gave the family audience a quick view of her most private parts. That created most of the buzz on Wednesday. What will the FCC say?
Two dancers stood out to me on the Atlanta broadcast - Jessica Jensen and Thomas Hamilton. One made it through to Vegas while the other did not. Jensen is a woman with one arm. She gave an inspirational and stunning performance, but she faltered greatly in the choreography. You can check out Jessica Jensen's audition below.
The other Thomas Hamilton amazed the judges in both areas. He is a young man trying to make a better life for himself and get away from an unhealthy environment. He did make it through to the next round, so we will see him when the show heads to Vegas once auditions are over.
As the auditions moved to the city of New Orleans, we quickly learned Nigel would not be judging that city. Mary Murphy wasn't alone as LilC and Adam Shankman join her at the judging table. This was the first time the series had hit New Orleans for auditions, and they found some great talent on the first day. Two stood out to me.
The first being Shelby Skipper or Ship. He brought a new style of dance to the series with his audition on stage. A style he said was called New Orleans Bounce, and there was no doubt he impressed the judges. Check out his audition below!
As for another that caught my eye day one, there was a young hip hop dancer by the name of Justin Kenny that was lucky to be alive much less dancing. He had been involved in a serious car accident where he suffered severe head trauma. He impressed the judges enough to be let through to the choreography round, and even without the best performance the judges took a chance and sent him through to Vegas.
On the second day, things took a drastic turn for the worse, and we even see Mary Murphy lose her cool and chastise those auditioning with some tips on what not to do, which is something rare to see. We also saw another new style of dance with a young theaters arts dancer, Kimlee Piedad, that showed off what she could do with her partner with some amazing lifts.
New Orleans was a powerful stop this year, and something tells me with all the talent that came out we might see a stop in New Orleans in future seasons. Seventeen made it through to Vegas on this stop. Next week, we have one more stop in Utah. What did you think of this week's auditions? Who stood out to you?
