Some of us know this already.

I don't think the ones who don't know it will read or if they read will change their mind.

That is the really scary horrible knowledge, some won't change their minds, until it is too late. It may already be too late.

My MIL had Alzheimer's .. it was heart-wrenching to watch her decline before our eyes. The way this country treats the sick and elderly is disgraceful.

I'll read the Alzheimer's links later. I did read the front page of the blog and disagreed with so much of it.

My Dad had Alzheimer's and he was in a great home. It didn't cost anywhere near what the blogger said. Most nursing homes take a number of residents/patients who are on Medicare. They have to agree to that if they want any government funds.

Hi Marilyn, I'm curious what state your father was in? And are you speaking of Medicaid and not Medicare? Government funds are from Medicaid.

If you are on Medicaid, you can't get into the facility where I work, though if you spend down your funds and then have to go on Medicaid, you can stay on there.

No, actually the only income involved was SS. When my ex's mother was in need of care, we discovered that homes that take government money are required to take some people who cannot pay full price. We put her in a home that cost $4000 per month and had to use up her money. Then the only cast was her SS month. Same thing with my dad. All his money had to be gone, including cashing in all life insurance policies (which really stunk), then the only cost was his SS money.

My mom has Alzheimer's and its sad for me to see her like this. I have a lot of respect for the elderly, and anyone who has Alzheimer's.
