Remember the STRIVE Act a couple of years ago ? It sought to make America's illegal aliens, legal. It was the handiwork of Rep. Luis Gutierrez, who represents Chicago, Il and environs. Now Rep. Gutierrez is introducing legislation for amnesty again. I wonder if there isn't a cap on how many times legislation, which has been soundly defeated numerous times, can be raised, again and again.
Seems like a total waste of Congressional time and taxpayer's money. Well, maybe it's not a total waste. At least not to Lobby Luis, whose special interest in immigration is quite obvious, with one look at his bio page, in his own website. On a relatively small page, the word immigrant (or derivative) is mentioned 13 times. In addition, the website boldly proclaims "On the national level, there has not been an elected official more committed or more passionate about protecting and advocating for our nation's immigrant community than Rep. Gutierrez."
This is well backed up by the impressive positions, in Congress, Gutierrez has held pertaining to immigration. Although accomplishments in other areas (ex. veterans and mass transit) do exist, Gutierrez does seem to be a one-issue Congressman, most known for his committee and caucus work involving immigration, when he's not, repeatedly, getting his political head handed to him on the Lou Dobbs show.
Even in his non-immigration involvements though, Lobby Luis manages to sneak in a few shots for his immigrant pals, who, whether legal or illegal, surely take full advantage. An example is from his position in the Financial Services Committee, as his website states : "...is leading efforts to make the costs of remittance services more transparent". Transparent ? I guess that means making it easier for immigrants (including illegals) to send US economy $$$ out of the USA, to be re-inserted into the economies of other countries.
Last I heard, $45 Billion/year was leaving the United States that way. A rather hard shot for the ailing US economy, but I suppose Gutierrez is thinking about his own political economy, and especially not about all the Americans (including Hispanics) who will be displaced from jobs, as a result of his efforts.
Here's a brief FAIR commentary about the new Gutierrez legislation :
Rep. Gutierrez to Introduce Amnesty Bill
On Thursday, September 17, Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) announced that he will “outline the fundamental principles of” an amnesty bill by October 13 and introduce actual legislation “shortly thereafter.” Gutierrez announced his intent to push amnesty legislation at a rally attended by special interest, open border advocacy groups, and noted that his bill will include “a pathway to legalization for those who have earned it.” (Rep. Gutierrez Press Release, September 17, 2009).
Congressman Gutierrez did not hint at what specific legislative details can be expected in his amnesty bill. However, in 2007, Gutierrez cosponsored the Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy Act (STRIVE Act). The STRIVE Act would have (1) granted amnesty to the approximately 12 million illegal aliens residing in the United States at the time and (2) provided for a future flow of cheap foreign labor by both offering a guest worker program with a path to citizenship and increasing existing employment-based visa programs. (See FAIR’s Legislative Backgrounder, May 2007). Political observers expect Rep. Gutierrez’s new legislation to be similar to the 2007 STRIVE Act.

i.e. (2) provided for a future flow of cheap foreign labor in Gutierrez' STRIVE ACT... Guess he wants dinner over at the White House.
Unless they're going to move it to Chicago. Not that I have anything against Chicago. In fact, GO CUBS ! I'd like to see you guys get in the world series after all these years.
Sen. David Vitter offered an amendment that prevents any further delays in the implementation of the Social Security Administration’s No-Match-letter program. Sen. Jeff Sessions offered an amendment that requires all federal contractors to use E-Verify and a permanent re-authorization of the application. All American workers must keep an eye on Sen. Harry Reid, Speaker Pelosi, and HS chief Napolitano as they--WILL--make the effort to squash or weaken immigration laws and today might conspire to cut funding for E-Verify as of September 30?
In a move to block Sen. Sessions’ E-Verify amendment, the Senate leadership tried to table the amendment, but the motion failed and was later passed.
This is an outstanding win for 10 million jobless Americans whom are suffering? We are finally harnessing the Special Interest lobby as they are now raving mad. Congratulations go out to these politicians, who are fighting a perpetual battle against the massive corporate welfare program, called illegal immigration, which taxpayers have always supported. Illegal aliens and families are catered for through emergency rooms laws, while the legal population is hounded for unpaid bills. It is truly a massive impediment if foreign nationals can also access any health care reform that passes? Our phone calls should not stop until E-Verify is fully funded, in-perpetuity? 287 G must continue, which will give our police the training to question people of their immigration status. ICE raids must be reinstated on all suspicious businesses. More Border Patrol agents? E-Verify could have many use, including drivers licenses, health care, insurance in the mainstream state benefits verification? Last, but not least the Immigration Reform and Control Act must be enforced, not undermined so they can heave at us another path to citizenship. We cannot support another BLANKET AMNESTY. The last one was Mickey Mouse and driven by unparalleled fraud. Three websites have the raw ingredients of the undisclosed cost and other information at NUMBERSUSA, JUDICIAL WATCH & for OVERPOPULATION statistics CAPSWEB.
As for the 2010 Census? Small states will miss out big time on federal dollars, while mass illegal immigrant states will gain more seats in Congress and too much power and influence? Of course ICE could check the immigration status of those who are counted, even though it's supposedly against US law?

Now for the other side of the coin, No where in law do we offer a criminal a gift so large! do we offer a bank robber a bag of money for doing it just because he is oppressed? I think not!
What we need to do is take those who entered illegally and get them out of the country! take them out, give them a badge of honor, like a spot on their record and not allow them back, why? because they have not only broken 1 rule by entering illegally but they have also broken many others like: working while unauthorized, something I'm sure has been broken with the tax situation on the jobs they perform, they invent a SSN and unfortunately at times it belongs to someone already (just ask my mom) and quite frankly have no fear of the law when every day they are living fearlessly and reaping money when it does not belong to them (legally).
Make them go back to their country of origin and apply to enter just like every other immigrant does! there is a law in immigration if you have entered illegally and leave the country you are disqualified to re-enter, so why not do this with every single one?
I do not understand how, just because they walk through the border or pay off a border patrolman it gives them rights! Screw their rights, they belong in their country playing the waiting game like every other law abiding person does to enter!
