Have you ever heard of Shingles 

Not the kind that are on the roof 

But the kind you get from Chicken pox 

They sting you like large ants on the hoof 

 

Billy rode all the way to California 

And he's there a day and a half 

He calls, he has a lump on his face 

I think of a nasty spider bite, he can't even laugh

  

 He went to one of those quick Medical places 

The doctor said she thinks it is shingles

 I never knew you could get them on your face 

He said it hurts real bad, not just little tingles 

 

She ordered something from the pharmacy 

She did a test to send out because it's near his eye 

Thank goodness  CVS is out there too 

If it's shingles, and she's right, this thing has got to die 

 

I hope it's all just hogwash, and quickly goes away 

Because from here, you know,  doctor I can't play 

My hands are tied, keep it clean is what I'd say 

Hope the pills she gave him work, I am going to pray

I knew this relaxation mode wouldn't last too long, lol, the doctor said it had to be taken care of quickly because it is so near the eye, His glands in his neck are so swollen I thought it could be a spider bite, which might need an anti biotic, but now he is own his own, with the girlfriend, hope it gets better really fast so I can relax again, for a little longer.

Shingles are awful. When I shattered my left leg in 2006 , I got had them. No one was allowed in my room, at the nursing home, without a mask and gloves because it could have spread to the other patients. I was not allowed to leave my room either for therapy for over a week.

It is very painful, I hope he gets better soon..

I didn't know it was contagious, another thing to worry about

I didn't think swollen glands went with shingles, I'd be more inclined to think of a spider bite too. When Mark worked at the lottery, there was a woman that got them all the time, but I talked to her on the phone a lot -- mixed up an aromatherapy blend for her to try, but she did not have them on her face and she did not have swollen glands. My blend did clear them up though.
Can he get a second opinion?

he's going to get mine, but he wants to do everything for himself now, and his girlfriend is kind of in control there, I hope they get the right medical advice, my son and husband had shingles and no glands involved either, but theirs were around the waist area. I hope if it is a spider bite, he probably needs an antibiotic with those swollen glands, good thing on his side, he is young, I praying tonight he gets better soon,

only good thing the doctor took a specimen and will know in a couple of days if it is not shingles, at least I hope so.

My face to face friend has had shingles many times and I was around her a lot, plus Tracy's x husband had them a lot too. Never a doctor said contagious. I am with you girl. Washing hands is always a good idea for anyone all the time, you know we were raised that way

my Dad was a real bear when he got them.
Then he started acting like a bear too, rubbing his back on any corner he came to in the house.

Herpes zoster (shingles) can indeed involve the lymph nodes. Often there are low grade flu-like symptoms for about a week before it breaks out. The doctor was correct in treating with anti-viral medication at first suspicion of the disease because herpes simplex ophthalmicus can be a serious condition and can be prevented or modified by treating within the first 72 hours.

I did not know that, John... hope the doc was right and the meds work for Billy, Elsie. I have scars from shingles that are decades old and still remember the pain...ouch!

thank you John, I spoke to him today and he is on 800 mg, of something, made just for shingles, Can't get Billy to remember the name, but he is remembering to take them. He said it seems to be drying up and he is feeling better, hasn't hurt his appetite, so guess that is good. But it is so swollen, his face, he can't get his helmet on so no bike riding for awhile. (relieved of that) lol.

here is a funny for you,,,
one day while driving we passed a pharmacy stating flu shot here,, and another sign that states shingle shots here. Well the daughter I ever so love, ask me why roofers needed specail shots.. I had to pull over to stop laughing ever so,, So sorry for Billy I hope he gets better fast...

Hope the medicine clears it up quickly. One time many years ago, the doctor was afraid I had shingles near my eye and I had to put eye ointment in every 2 hrs for 48 hrs. That was really annoying. It turned out it wasn't shingles so I got to stop doing that.
never had them....
hope Billy doesn't........

I've heard they're very painful though........

I'll be watching your posts carefully to see how he does on the shingles. In an outside office downstairs from where I work there is an office to get shots. In their window they advertize the shingles vaccine. I've never gotten it but have wondered about it a lot. My neighbor had them for years. She had rather frequent flare-ups and she felt it was terrible. Hers were on her waistline and back. Somehow I had the impression this was a problem older people had, not young people. So sorry to hear it. I am going to wish and pray he heals quickly.
