We went to the Faire on Saturday. Our daughter's college was having a trip and since the Faire is about halfway between Shippensburg and our house,we decided it would be a nice way to spend some time with her. We left at 8:30,thinking the Faire opened at 10,but they have changed the opening time to 11,so we spent some time in the gift store and wine shop. Megan joined us about 10:30 and we went over to the Faire's gate. I noticed that they did not seem to have as many characters wandering about as they have in other years. We went in and went to the opening ceremony. Again,I noticed that they did not have the same amount of characters as in previous years. I guess the economy is affecting everything.
The weather was cool but dry when we got there and stayed that way until about 2. Then it started to spit. My husband had gone off to see some shows and Megan and I were browsing the shops. She bought a ring and one of those masks with the stick on it that you hold and we both bought some tea. We then headed over to the human chess match. As this point,it was raining pretty heavily. They had the chess match but it didn't go on as long as it has before. Mike joined us but he wasn't feeling well,so we went and got something to eat. We had planned to go to the joust, but he was really complaining of a headache,so we decided to leave at 5:30. I felt awful leaving Megan there. She is a freshman and did not really know anyone else on the trip and they were supposed to be there till 8:30. She said she would be ok and she went to the joust. All the way home,I was just worried about her being there in the rain and cold without really knowing anyone. We had to stop on the turnpike to get Mike some Aleve. It was raining pretty badly but he insisted on driving. I don't like driving on the turnpike, especially in the rain, but I would have done it.
We were almost to our exit, just about 7 o'clock, when my cell phone rang. It was Megan saying they had closed the Faire early because of the weather and they were on the bus heading back to Shippensburg. I felt bad that she had to leave early but I was relieved that she was on her way back.
It was a shame the weather didn't cooperate, but at least we had some time to spend together and that is what counts. I took some pictures but I'm just getting used to using my camera,so I'll do another article with the pictures.
