My friend Jen has finally found someone, the right one, I think.  At least that is my prayer for her.  He makes her happy and excited and brings her roses without cause.  Tonight, I saw where another friend complimented her on finally finding a ‘keeper’.  The compliment probably led her to smile (she’s got such a pretty smile).  The compliment led me to write.

 

 

 

I've Never Been A Keeper

I’ve never been a keeper

I’ve roamed the lonely road

Doesn’t mean my heart wasn’t in it

It just means I do what I know

 

I know how to sit at night

My room, quiet as a tomb

I’ve learned how to bid myself goodnight

While cussing at the moon

 

Grocery trips take twenty minutes

Doesn’t take long to shop for one

I watch the ladies with their keepers

While my heart, pains me some

 

I know I love each girl I’ve known

And each one, they’ve made me smile

I’ve always wanted one to last forever

But I guess my ‘want’ doesn’t match my ‘style’

 

There are men who’ve never been lonely

That never suffered for a woman’s touch

That never sat lonesome at midnight

And writing these words as such

 

I wish I was a keeper.

If you had been closer, who knows, Robert...Your poem is breaking my heart. I wish I could set you up with someone nice and pretty or wave my magic wand to make her appear. You're a keeper in that we have formed a true bond that will last forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you always to find your "one."

I had a tune going through my head while I was reading your poem; if you are not a composer yourself, you need to find one, b/c this is definitely a candidate for the country charts! And I agree w/the others, stated in another way--there is someone for every one of us.

It took me a failed marriage and 10 years of single parenting to find a keeper at age 44 - there is always hope. In the meantime, many of us here keep you in a looser kind of way - still close to our hearts but not the way you yearn for. I hope it helps for now.

We both have that need. I have had those that love me, but they can never love me "that way". You start to wonder what you need to do. I always seem to be too late or too soon. i never seem to be right for somebody. Hugs and Blessings my friend! Where there is life there is hope, right?

Aw...Robert. You're a keeper. I think you're wonderful. So much is about meeting the right person at the right time. Don't give up. And remember, it isn't about how LONG you are with someone. It is all about the moments you share when you are together. I had rather spend a few beautiful moments with the love of my life than a lifetime with someone else. You have a lot of years left to find someone to spend those beautiful moments with. Keep that thought close to your heart.

Your "style" may make it difficult for you to be a "keeper". Difficult but not impossible. You have to find someone who has the same style as you do. She is out there Robert you just haven't bumped into her yet.

Robert, your lady is out there somewhere, you will find her. I never had much faith that there was anyone quite like me in the world either. Your words are beautiful yet heart wrenching. You are truly a keeper Robert. When you least expect it, when you're not even looking, when your back is turned... you will turn... and there she will be. I was over 50 before I found my keeper. And I had long since gave up even looking.

A Keeper is someone to hold near
You not being a keeper seems a fear
you have.
But your realization that the self
of just you is a wealth.
In knowing that, you
will allow others someday to know you too.
You wish you were a keeper, someone to hold dear
Somebody else out there in this big world
Might be harboring the very same fear
And one day in that grocery store
While you're shopping just for you
Somebody else in the very next aisle
May be the one to make one and one a two!

Just a silly rhyme but really somebody as great as you seem will surely find a dream oneday and when you do we'll know!

Oh you know how it is, I wrote it, trying to be serious because what I was feeling and trying to convey is serious then I say I'm being silly, not really meaning it, but meaning the serious and anyhow I didn't want to make you cry.

Robert, my friend you are a keeper. Sometimes people overlook what is right in front of them. We must open our hearts and be willing to allow love to enter. She will find you when you lease expect it.

Now Now thaere will be none of that kinda talkin round here. God is keeping you til the Right one comes along. He wants to match ya up wit another keeper. we're hard to find so sometimes....yea, it takes too darn gone long but when she comes....God will make sure ya keep her and she keeps you.

Oh hell, Robert, this is so sad, I cried when I read this the first time....You know, that you are loved and cared about in so many ways~~~~You are definitely a KEEPER!!!!! Trust me, I know a keeper and I know who is not, I wonder sometimes, the what ifs, you know.....I know that you will be happy one day, and all this, this feeling that you feel, will be so far away, that you wont even remember it
