It is interesting. I used to get a Gyro all the time at a small Greek place next to work. I really liked them... then he closed shop and retired. Bummer... LOL. Thanks.
I love Gyros, but it looks like I have to cut out wheat from my diet, so I probably won't have them very much in the future without consequences. The ones out here in California tend not to have lamb in them, which I think is a shame.
I don't think I've ever had a gyro as I am in an area with more Italians then Greeks. The Greek sandwich shops here tend to have grinders and not gyros though. The Italian shops have Zeps, Subs, Heroes, and Hoagies, which are all basically the same sandwich on an Italian roll of some sort. One of these days I'll find a spot with gyros and give one a try ... maybe.
I was first introduced to the Gyros at Olga's, of course. But, they have gotten to be much too expensive. There was a Greek gyros place in Ann Arbor that used to make a gyros pizza. Lately, the local cony dog places have decent gyros sandwiches.
