I love cobbled streets
sturdy solid solid stones
fixed forever under
cloth covered feet
and wooden wheels
grinding creaking rolling
straining beneath the weight
a lash and a crack
of the old leather whip
a groan and a snear and
an under the lip oath
lampost stands firm
as the wind whispers
‘Away you ruffian -
rum I loath”
I love cobbled streets
images of History feats
silent sounds of miscreants
beats, and pickpockets retreats
I love cobbled streets
spaces where Robin Hood
may have stood
or Long John Silver stepped
on the wood
his parrot whistled , a shout
pieces of eight pieces of eight’
and the sword shone neat-
lonesome frightening discrete
I love cobbled streets-

Dear I.marilyn -- I just read your comment. My home country is now Pakistan. I was born in the city of Srinagarin Indian held Kashmir -. Kashmir is in the North of Pakistan. Its border touches China India and Pakistan . It is very far from Nepal though the Himalayan mountain ranges form the Northern borders of Kashmir.
Kashmiri people have their own Kashmiri language, their traditional long full length dress with headgear, Kashmiri food is unique in cooking methods and taste.Mostly lamb meat is eaten in various forms, with boiled rice. Kashmiri handwork needle craft and embroidery has no equal in the world.Silken thread embroidered cloth is special and there is Kashmiri music too.The people are creative and very talented.
