It has been a long road for Bill and I in these past few months. It's funny how one can take a simple act of trying to help one's fellow man, in this instance, my sister, and have it blow up in one's face. Our circumstance is truly an example of "No good deed goes unpunished".
We came to Northeastern Kentucky in early August, at the request of another sister of mine, to assist my other sister when she returned from the hospital after a bout of pneumonia, as well as viral meningitis. It was suspected that she had a small stroke, but that has not been verified.
It was agreed that our moving to Ky., would not only be beneficial to my sister, but us as well. Some of you are aware that we had hit on hard times this year. I was laid off, my car died an ugly death, and my computer bit the big one as well. (Praise the Public Library!!)
It seemed like a good idea to go down here to help her out, as while we would help fix up the place, and help with utilities, she would let us use her car to look for work, and we would have internet installed to use with her old, but able computer. It turns out the computer was indeed old, but not a bit able.
Unfortunately, the entire situation did not work out. After my sister recuperated from her illness, she decided we could no longer use her car, and even left us stranded on the mountain for two weeks while she went to Minnesota with another sister. Luckily, being stranded enabled us to save our pennies and buy a car. It's not a Lexus, but it moves. She also more than doubled the amount of financial assistance she wanted. For this month alone, she asked us to pay 82% of the bills.
We decided, as I only have one week of unemployment left, to high-tail it back to Ohio to find employment, while we still have a couple nickles to our name.
So, here we are, camping in central Ohio. Living in a tent, and loving it. The tension and stress have melted away, and I have had one interview already, and a second scheduled for Thursday. I am taking it as a very good sign that I was called for a second interview within 15 minutes of leaving the first.
Wish us luck kiddies, as we head into the adventure which is homelessness.

We are currently living in a tent so it's not far from homeless. BUT...we are infinitely more content than we were.
I'm speechless~ you are handling this with grace and humor while i would be curled up in a ball sucking my thumb in a corner somewher if faced with homelessness~
hugs to you both my friends~
Nah, you're a tough cookie, just like me. We do what we have to do, and endure (with grace, if we're lucky).
For the record, I had my thumb sucky moments while I was still in Ky.
If you've read my latest "As the Wheels Continue to Turn", you know we've had our share of misfortune because of family this year also.
I am sure you will come out of this better and stronger than before.
We were buying a home and land ( lease to own ) or ( rent to own ) anyhow our land lady decided she was now independent since she finished her nurse's degree and divorced her husband... so now she wants our place.
Not exactly the same thing but good luck on your adventure... and it sounds like your better off.
God bless and good luck.
Sometimes living in a tent is far better than living in an intolerable situation.
But, at least you got out before she left you destitute.
Lesson learned.
I'm glad to hear that you're happy where you are.
I pray that you will not have to live in a tent forever though.
And, think you will find another beautiful, small place that you can take care of.
I hope so...the thought of a Donnacicle isn't too appealing, ya know?
Please be careful with the heater where oxygen and fires are concerned. I know of a couple other people living in tents in Central Ohio ... wth? I guess it's more common than I ever imagined.
Definitely write it all down. It would make a compelling story. You write well to start with, I bet you could sell it.
If there is any way for me to contact you, please let me know. I'd like to help you if I can. I'll send you a Gather email with my contact information. I have friends who live in Columbus, too.
I wouldn't go so far as to call it "cruel"..."ignorant" is more like it.
As for safety, we are very careful campers. You know other folks in tents here? How bizarre!
Good luck, Donna.
My Mother used to say that from time to time and unfortunately, I completely understand what that means.
Good Luck job hunting!!
Holler at us if you need to get out of the cold. We can move some stuff and give you a room if you're not too picky. Lots of rentals here on the south end too!
goes wrong(Heater died last night, had to buy a new one today), I think we'll be good.
Sorry about your daughter, I hadn't heard. I hope she's getting plenty of rest, and drinking plenty of fluids.
This is the first I heard of your situation, I hope things work out soon for you guys, u went back to Ohio? Not in Kentucky any longer? You should have hollared at me, I could have helped you out, at least kept you out of a tent, it is flipping cold
Prayers headed your way.....and stay in touch!
Sending warm wishes and hope . . .
