Just came inside from watching the launch of the United Launch Alliance Delta II from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Cape Canaveral, FL.
STSS Demonstrators Program is a midcourse tracking technology demonstrator and is part of an evolving ballistic missile defense system. STSS is capable of tracking objects after boost phase and provides trajectory information to other sensors. This rocket was launched by NASA for the Missile Defense Agency.
Unfortunately I am 167 miles from there, but on a clear day you can look east from my front yard and see the vapor trail. On a shuttle mission, you can actually see the flame from the shuttle.
Although this launch was not as spectacular as a shuttle launch, I still find it amazing and exciting to watch.
