I have heard a lot about “Obama is not a Muslim” and how he is a Christian. That makes the following all the more interesting. The Christian Obama cancels the National Day of Prayer and then sponsors a Islamic Day of Prayer at the White House. Isn’t that a little hypocritical?
He may not think we are a Christian Nation but we sure are not a Muslim Nation, at least not yet. He may be working on that.
In June 2007, Presidential candidate Barack Obama declares the USA no longer a Christian
nation.
In 1952 President Truman established one day a year as a National Day of Prayer.
In 1988, President Reagan designated the first Thursday in May of each year as the National Day of Prayer.
This year however, President Obama, decided to cancel the ceremony at the White
House not wanting to offend anyone.
On September 25, 2009 from 4am until 7pm, a National Day of Prayer for the Muslim religion will be held on Capitol Hill, beside the White House. As a Christian, it makes me really wonder where the REAL direction of this country is headed. Whether you didn't vote for the man or you did, as Christians I would surely hope that this would stir your spirit. They are expecting over 50,000 muslims that day in DC.

He used that as part of his platform.
But yes, it was just ANOTHER lie the liberals want to ignore.
If he had said he was a MUSLIM when he was running he would have lost a lot of votes.
Obama could go on Fox, announce he'd personallly cured cancer and FOX would run a headline 'Kenyan born government official puts doctors out of work...'
I mean... c'mon, we can all try that. I'm sure I must have learned *something* from Fox News apart from universal stealth scares from Glenn Beck, (if only it's that I'm actually a Euro-commie, tree-hugging liberal who'd march his granny to a death-camp for a cup of decent tea rather than give himself over to the NHS Gestapo...)
Except for the part about women, it describes Obama pretty accurately.......
one more generation and we WILL have a Muslim president, hopefully I'll be gone by then.
Where does your authority come from contradict anyone's right to assert their own spirituality? Do you think the ability to type Col. in front of your name makes you anything but a frightened little phony?
Well nit-wit I didn't say anyone didn't have the right to assert their own spirituality. You made that up.
I did say the laws of the country does not allow for religious services on government property and that is what is going to happen. It would not happen if it were any form of Christianity or even a Jewish event.
Are you going to delete yourself for personal insults now, Colonel Poser?
""Let's not play games," he said. "What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you're absolutely right that that has not come."
Mr. Stephanopoulos interrupted with, "Christian faith."
"My Christian faith," Mr. Obama said quickly. "Well, what I'm saying is that he hasn't suggested that I'm a Muslim."
Surely, most people can't honestly see this as a person hiding their religion, it was in the middle of an interview, the reversal of two words in a sentence! Jeez...I think I remember the last President barely being able to string a sentence together at the best of times and the Far Right instantly forgave those and laughed them off. So let's give the guy a break from SOME conspiracy theories at least... and not jump on a misplaced word as the central pillar of a mason-like revelation.
And, pray tell, how does one become a SECRET Muslim? Kinda tricky when the world's watching 24/7.
All that does not answere the question of how a permit to hold religious services on government property got issued.
In this day and age there's a balance to be had between decrying the methods and attitudes of fundamentalists and NOT lumping in everyone who happens to believe in that religion, but in a less radical way. For instance I don't put the KKK, Rush Limbaugh and friends I know in the same basket, merely because they may share Christian beliefs (or think they do) - I judge them as individuals and by those individual actions.
HOWEVER, at a time of hightened tension, some out of paranoia, some out of justification, it's important to reach out and reassure reasonable members of other religions that we're not going to lump them together and for all to see the benfit of building bridges between communities who - on BOTH sides - sometimes have their radical and distrusting natures stirred up by people who'd prefer they are forever separate. BOTH sides.
I'm not naive. Sometimes there needs to be an iron fist inside the glove, but equally I'm not going to hold anything against Obama for reaching out to other ethnic communities or saying he'll talk to any leaders who demonstrate they want *genuine* dialogue. In fact it's pure pragmatic common sense to realise the only way to stop those radical factions gaining NEW members is to be on the front foot of showing the average pilgrim of any religion that they have nothing to fear as long as they don't actively threaten us first.
There is no "Muslim Prayer Day" at the White House. This "Islam on Capital Hill" event was organized by a private individual who got a permit for the event. It has nothing to do with Obama or congress. Obama sponsoring a Muslim prayer day... friggin retarded.
Once again, the same idiots eat it up! Terry says that you're so brave to be an idiot like him. Carol is once again sickened by the fairy tales she believes are true.
You guys deserve to be called names. George, get some reputable sources. How many times are you going to get fooled before you realize that your current sources aren't going to give you the truth, and that they aren't even interested in the truth? I'm tired of giving you the benefit of the doubt already. I'm pretty sure you aren't interested in the truth yourself. You disgust me.
If your Muslim were a Christian the permit would have been denied as a religious event to be held on government property. I guess then Muslim is not religion?
I didn't bother reading your sources (which are commentary, not news) and instead searched for the news myself. But I bet "Atlasshrugs" blog, apparently dedicated to Ayn Rand, is a reliable source of "news." And nobody should suspect "rightsidenews" would have anything but the most balanced and accurate reporting with any kind of agenda or commentary whatsoever. Haha, yeah, right. Apparently the only source you have that doesn't openly indicate what audience it seeking is Associated Content, which consists entirely of user-submitted articles. That's like me linking to this Gather article and assuming that it's fact, which is clearly is not.
Like I've said before, is it too much to ask of you for you to think before you write? I find it hard to believe that you are stupid enough to insist that your obviously slanted sources couldn't possibly be untruthful or misleading. After I informed you of the truth, why on Earth would you not search the Internet to see for yourself before making such a stupid insistence??? Do you know how to use the internet? Ever heard of Google, or Google News?
And just like in your other article, once one of your false claims appears to be getting shot down, you start looking for another claim to salvage something from the article. Apparently you need no sources for your claim that Christians would be denied a permit for a similar Christian event. You just "feel" that would be the case because of your paranoia that the conspiracy is working against you. Well, it's not the case, because it's a private citizen exercising free expression of religion, not government endorsement of a religion. You certainly aren't barred from praying on Government property. But hey, that won't stop you from screaming about supposed hypocrisy and acting like you know what you're talking about. Heaven forbid you get your facts straight before pulling the trigger...
Hey, from what I've read on this site, the door swings boths ways, Tim.....
Equally, if someone can't provide attribution about a controversial or unlikely quote, they should expect some cynicism and doubt of accuracy.
Besides, your audience is not all liars and partisans. Some people are interested in the truth and candid discussion and don't deserve to have you assume that they must be liars too because they disagree with you.
All my comments are available for view. Show me once where I've ever lied or distorted the facts. Show me where I've even ever egged on a partisan post or a dishonest or distorted post? Losers like you come to the partisan or lying posts and voice your support for it, give a cheer, pat yourselves on the back, and attack the subject of your slander with pure hate. I will not, because I've got some integrity.
Abraham.

Does that include the prayer meetings Geo W. held in the East room?
Anyway there is this.
Q: Who’s behind the Muslim prayer day at the Capitol Sept. 25?
A: The New Jersey lawyer (and former Bucknell University star tailback) who is organizing the event says it’s to show "we love America." He was inspired by the president’s inaugural address and Cairo speech.
and this
Washington Post, Sept. 5: Tens of thousands of Muslims plan to pray "for the soul of America" outside the U.S. Capitol this month in what is being described as a first-of-its-kind event.
The rest all from one of those conservative think tanks that crank out the Anti-Obama JUNK EMAILS continuously.
See the
Atlas Shrugged.org ref in Col.'s references. Libertrian originator, Ayn Rand Book named Atlas Shrugged. Ayn was an atheist. Just for the record.
And this:
"National Day of Prayer" went on as scheduled May 7. Organizers said the 58th annual event produced "a greater outpouring of prayer for our nation … than ever before."
The email message is a twisted reference to President Obama’s decision not to participate publicly.
Instead he issued a presidential proclamation but did not hold a public service in the East Room as President Bush had done in previous years.
(The chain e-mail actually links to
Obama’s proclamation, in which he "call[ed] upon Americans to pray in thanksgiving for our freedoms and blessings and to ask for God’s continued guidance, grace, and protection for this land that we love.")
I can confidently state that NOT ONE PERSON ON THIS COMMENT THREAD WILL
CHANGE THEIR MIND
So why then are some of you embracing Atheist Libertarian thought?
And the Dark Side squim and spin, rant and rave and oh' what joy to see all of them have sleepless nights living in fear and loathing almost like tortue to them I bet, makes my heart go, pitter patter and I feel a tingle go up my leg every time I hear President Obama speak and see the right-wing pundints turn beet red in frustration.
The goodtimes are here again. For the President to be all that, must mean he is doing his job, as the right-wing are relentless in their attack of our first elected African-American President. And just think he is not finish yet, he is just getting started. It just gets better and better. My prayer has been answered he is real, he be the man, can you dig it baby!
Eh?
I don't give a shit if he's a Muslim or not.. frankly at this point it doens't matter if he was born on the moon unless somebody can really prove it, we are just as stuck with him as we were dubya and we need to hold him to his campaign promises, such as..

The administration of No Action?
no I'd not say that, the tie wearing class in this country had pretty much screwed it during the last two administrations. Clinton is proud of ending a production economy, Bush buggered the budget on personal crusades, Obama came in bent over and ready for both of them.
what I am saying is it has NEVER actually mattered what religion ANY president was, and that one way or the other they ALL lie to us, so...
STOP BEING DISTRACTED BY THIS CRAP!!!
You'r right of course Doc. We have more important things but if you don't look at the little things they become big things.

For Immediate Release May 7, 2009
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, 2009
- - - - - - -
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Throughout our Nation's history, Americans have come together in moments of great challenge and uncertainty to humble themselves in prayer. In 1775, as the Continental Congress began the task of forging a new Nation, colonists were asked to observe a day of quiet humiliation and prayer. Almost a century later, as the flames of the Civil War burned from north to south, President Lincoln and the Congress once again asked the American people to pray as the fate of their Nation hung in the balance.
It is in that spirit of unity and reflection that we once again designate the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer. Let us remember those who came before us, and let us each give thanks for the courage and compassion shown by so many in this country and around the world.
On this day of unity and prayer, let us also honor the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. We celebrate their commitment to uphold our highest ideals, and we recognize that it is because of them that we continue to live in a Nation where people of all faiths can worship or not worship according to the dictates of their conscience.
Let us also use this day to come together in a moment of peace and goodwill. Our world grows smaller by the day, and our varied beliefs can bring us together to feed the hungry and comfort the afflicted; to make peace where there is strife; and to lift up those who have fallen on hard times. As we observe this day of prayer, we remember the one law that binds all great religions together: the Golden Rule, and its call to love one another; to understand one another; and to treat with dignity and respect those with whom we share a brief moment on this Earth.
The Congress, by Public Law 100-307, as amended, has called on the President to issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a "National Day of Prayer."
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 7, 2009, as a National Day of Prayer. I call upon Americans to pray in thanksgiving for our freedoms and blessings and to ask for God's continued guidance, grace, and protection for this land that we love.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.
BARACK OBAMA

Contrary to claims made in some versions of this message, the referenced prayer service is not taking place at, nor has it been officially sanctioned by, the White House — the Islam on Capitol Hill event is an independently organized one which will be held on public grounds at the West Front of the Capitol. (Also, although the White House did not host an ecumenical service on the National Day of Prayer in 2009 as it did in previous years, the observance of the National Day of Prayer itself was not cancelled.)
House not wanting to offend anyone.
I wonder how many Christians are offended by this.
What do they consider they are doing not questioning a thing Obama does and making excused for every event.
Take this event for instance. Why now? This is billed as the first Islamic Day or Prayer. Why in this adminisstration. That is not questioned, it happened in Obama's watch and he had nothing to do with it. Yeah sure, if the Obama administration was not receptive it would no have beeen tried.
We all know it not only exists but is about to happen, probably in the next year or two
BTW, Islam is not a monolithic religion any more than Christianity is. Lots of sects in both that don't agree with each other.
It is claimed the idea came from Obama's inagural address.
"By their fruits shall ye know them." Talking about religion isn't living one's religion. "Where's the beef?"
As the Book says "Verily you have your reward" whereas the person who beat his chest and admited his sins out of the public view was told his reward was in heaven.
Your words, Col. "I have heard a lot about “Obama is not a Muslim” and how he is a Christian. That makes the following all the more interesting. The Christian Obama cancels the National Day of Prayer and then sponsors a Islamic Day of Prayer at the White House. Isn’t that a little hypocritical?"
Who's being hypocritical????
Thats what I think not that it makes him one or any difference it's just what I think. Never let a little thing like religion get in the way of a good political office.
A: The New Jersey lawyer (and former Bucknell University star tailback) who is organizing the event says it’s to show "we love America." He was inspired by the president’s inaugural address and Cairo speech.
Fact Check gives some of he responsability to Obama for this bold move.
