A Few Photos of Rainbows for Rainbow Connection

I was never able to get a photo of a rainbow while I lived in Georgia. How pathetic is that?

Since I've lived here at the beach, I have captured 5 different rainbows. Of course my photos always look terrible. I don't know how some people can get such bright rainbow pictures. I know so far I sure can't.

Anyway, here are three different ones I managed to see and photograph in August and September, the last one was taken yesterday in fact.

This one was taken from the Conch Cafe parking lot in August.

The next one was seen while driving down the street heading to one of the side enterance gates of my community.

This last one was taken late yesterday afternoon just after some ocean storms came ashore. I believe it was the reminants of tropical storm Fred.

I was going to put these in my gallery, but I was too embarassed as to how poorly the rainbows display.

I usually have to lighten mine just a touch. There's nothing wrong with these shots, Marianne! You can't go wrong, with such a subject. :)

If I lighten it, you won't be able to see them at all, lol. Even your icon one is really bright.

I think you might want to lighten/darken selected areas using something like dodge and burn tools- lighten the sky but not the rainbow. This might be tricky, maybe not. I've been experimenting with this kind of thing using layers in Photoshop Elements 6.

I love the last one, they are hard to capture, I think it depends on the color of the sky.

I'm still waiting to get a good shot of a rainbow. Nothing this summer, looks like I'll probably have to try again next year, or try & get some sun dog shots this winter. Getting pretty late for them here anymore. Thanks for posting these to Weather or Not? !

They are good shots. Sometimes it just depends on how close you are and what angle to the rainbow.

Don't be hard on yourself- you can't control the sky. Growing up in Arizona, it wasn't uncommon to have rainbows in bright blue, clear sky. I don't see rainbows like that in Missouri very often.

Ha! Rainbows are hard. One morning at 6:30 we saw a double rainbow...but whizzing down the freeway, I didn't even try!

I think your shots are great.....I gave up on trying to get pictures of rainbows after the first time I tried to get a picture of one!!

I got my first rainbow shot about two weeks ago and like you I've been holding off on posting.
In a way I was just glad to capture one, but I wasn't in a good location to try and photograph, by the time I found a spot that was just a little better, it was already fading.
