On monday i got a note home stating someone in the class had head lice. I thought okay I will double check and that night I found nothing. Yesterday about 5 mins before school is to let out I get a call from the teacher. She goes you remember the notice you got yesterday? I go yes PLEASE DON"T TELL ME SHE HAS IT.. she goes I am sorry but yes she does.
I have never had to deal with head lice in my life. I don't believe there are bugs but there is NITS. As a per the health department all of us have done the shampoo. We started with the kids then move to the hubby and I. Well 3 out of the 4 do not have which is good news. The school said they thought brayden had it too, and so did i... but no we don't..
Okay here is where I need help. Today I did my daily check of brianne.. she has some yellowish brownish things in there. I got them out. I am so freaked out this I am at a loss as to what to do next. I know sunday I am going to do the conditionor treatment. Can some one please help me, I have all stuff bagged, bedding has been washed and dried twice now, floors have been vaccumm, and couch sprayed, what else should i be doing?
I am not chancing sending her back until monday as a matter of fact both kids are home until monday. Between now and monday is there anything else I need todo?
I feel so embrassed to type this, but i know I need help and I have to put pride aside and get help...
If you have gone through what did you do? have I done everything you did? and how long after treatment with the shampoo can I wash with my normal everyday stuff? We washed out the shampoo so the shampoo is out but do i need it in the hair to for while longer just to keep it protected? any help would be wonderful

Bugs happen. Don't take it personally.
Years ago they had an outbreak in my daughters school and she got them and passed it on to her siblings. I can't recall what is was called, it's over the counter to help git rid of them. I want to say it's called Nix? Just go to the drugstore and ask them or ask the school what they recommend. It's a part of mothering and childhood. takes time and effort, but it's no big deal and you can get rid of it easily. Just keep their brushes and combs clean and separate from everything. Good Luck!
it happens to the best of people
put your dryer on the hot setting,
which was the only way I could kill them.
I didnt have a dryer when the boys came home with it, so we had to buy one,
once we did that, it helped alot
keep checking the hair 2 times a day
There is no reason to be embarrassed. Head lice are a lot like a flea infestation; no matter how clean you keep things, there is still the chance that it will be brought in from somewhere. I've been lucky and never had to deal with head lice; however, I've had to deal with a couple of flea infestations.
The only thing you can do is wash you hair and comb them with a very fine comb (the fines that you can find on the market).
Do this every 2-3 days for 2-3 weeks.thats it finish.
iF THE KIDS WEAR BAEBALL CAPS, GET RID OF THEMAND GET NEW ONES WHEN YOU'RE CERTAIN THE PROBLEM IS GONE.
dON'Y BE ASHAMED OR EMBARRASSED. WHEN i WAS A KID, EVERY KID IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD GOT HEAD LICE AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR. IF TOY HAVE FURRY OR FEATHERED ANIMAKL, CHECK WITH A VET FOR PRECAUTIONS OR EXAMS FOR THE CRITTERS (ESPECIALLY RODENTS, MICE, GUINEA PIGSM,HAMSTERS, ETC
My daughter got it when she was in Kinder I felt embarrassed too but then i realized how many kids get it each year.
I went end bought the NIX shampoo. Look slike you already did all you had to do though.
When I was little my dad would not let my mom cut my hair so I had my hair down past my butt- One year I got lice and then all 8 of us got it because of me,
My mom could not afford to buy the shampoo needed for 8 kids.
SO she bought to cans of RAID roach killer and sprayed our heads with it.
Please do not try this- Nor am I saying you should. I am just telling yo9u my experiance.
ANyway by the end of the day all of us had scractched our heads so much that the poison got into the cuts we all had yucky soars around our necks. LOL
I still ask my mom why she did that. She says " who cares now your still alive I don't know why oyu have to make such a big deal about it" haha
Spray everything with vinegar and water mixture. carpet bed etc.
when my kids would get them i would wash thier heads with vinegar and run that nit comb thru it. the vinager loosens the nits so that they are easier to remove. the first time leave the vinegar on thier heads for 2 hrs, cover thier head with a bag or something. POOF they are gone:)
To keep them away use coconut shampoo. its something about the shampoo that they dont like.
So glad to hear that she didnt have them keep some vinegar on hand:)
hugs 2 ya
I did the treatment for our son, washed everything in hot water, dried it, got freaky about MY hair as it was down to by butt and did mine too (that teeny comb hurts!). One year they closed the school down as they couldn't keep the things out - sprayed the entire place! It's that common.
You're doing everything right that I can tell, though if you snuggle with your little ones, do yours too :) I did and misery LOVES company!
Hugs,
Marilyn
if the nits are dark and right at the scalp, those are still yet to hatch.
I used my fingernails to get the nits pulled off, they are tough. You have to be in good lighting as well to make sure to see them....and keep rechecking as you always miss some. We bought a comb called the licemeister. If not many, I wouldn't think you would have to go through that expense as they used to sell for $18.
the shampoos literally do nothing....the headlice are now immune to it, so unless you have health insurance that is paying for it, don't waste your money. also, you have to be super careful as Priscilla said about not leaving it on longer than directed. Some children have gotten nerve damage from it being left on too long.
You can put mayonaisse in the hair and put a showercap over the head, overnight is best. This loosens the nits from the scalp.
it's nothing embarrassing...go to public school....get head lice
our schools have changed policy due to too many missed days not allowed to come with nits......they can't come now with bugs, but can if no live bugs are seen.
there is no need to bag up clothing and stuffed animals as some suggest.....the lice can't live off the human host longer than 24 hours. So, if you do decide to bag them, you don't have to for weeks like suggested.
another good hint is to put the bedding and such into your dryer on the highest setting for an hour. The heat will kill any that might be live.
yes, after working with Headstart for 13 years and my own children and step children having them, I am an expert.
done ever be embarassed you are fine to ask we are close enought to know and to care for you,,,
ANd yes lice are indeed bugs and in there larval stage they are called nits the problem comes because they lay eggs and the eggs hatch again compounding the problem. So shampooing with the Prescription stuff I recommend . For me the shampoo that the health dept recommends is not strong enough to prevent the eggs from hatching go with the prescritption shampoo and get a scrip for every member of the family and after shampooing comb out the nits ( Eggs & larvae))
Head lice (Pediculus capitis) are small parasitic insects exquisitely adapted to living mainly on the scalp and neck hairs of their human host. Their six impressive legs are elegantly evolved to grasp hair shafts and provide a striking example of biological specialization
Lindane is best the ingredient in shampoo but Lindane requires a prescription
Because this is the shampoo that kills adult and nymphal lice which are are sometimes called lousicides; those that kill the developing embryo within the egg are ovicides. The over the counter RId shampoo does not do this!
And this is why you must shampoo with it for two weeks:
A nymphal louse hatches from its egg after about 8 days of development, and begins to feed, grow and develop until it attains the adult stage about 9-12 days after hatching. A female louse may deposit more than 100 eggs at a rate of about six eggs each day
